Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Napping at daycare

DS starts daycare in a week. At home he naps in his RnP or swing and at night he sleeps in his RnP. At daycare they are required to place baby in their crib on their back when the baby falls asleep. I'm worried that DS is not going to do well. I tried to put him in his crib one day for a nap but it took him quite a while to go to sleep, and that was with me putting his paci back in multiple times. I'm going to move him to a bassinet at night but I have to replace a piece on his bassinet and I haven't received it yet. If your baby mostly slept elevated and then went to daycare and had to sleep flat, how did they do? I plan to try to get him to nap more next week in his crib. It's just hard because I have things I need to get done...

Re: Napping at daycare

  • DS has slept in his crib on his back since night 1 so I can't help there but he fusses to be held all the time. He constantly wants to be held & "walked". You can't just hold him while sitting, he has to be moving. Daycare has helped with this. He now can go longer stretches of just hanging out in his swing and entertaining himself. So, maybe daycare will help make the transition for you. It can't last forever, right? :)

  • L had never slept in her crib when she started DC at 4 months. She still doesn't sleep in her crib at home. Just tell them your concerns, they should work with him. L is a crappy napper at DC and they try to get her to sleep by rocking her (because that's how we put her to sleep). Sometimes it doesn't work but when it does they put her in the crib. If she wakes up, she wakes up. They try what they can. Because she fights sleep they also try putting her in a bouncy and have her face the other direction so she can't see what's going on. It doesn't always work. Yesterday she had 1 nap!

  • I am a director at a learning center and our department of welfare needs any sleeping other than the crib in writing from the parent. So, check with your facility and see if that is what they would need. If you just need to put it in writing that your child needs to sleep in the RNP then everything should be fine Smile

  • They adapt. DS naps completely differently at home than he does at daycare. They figure out what works for them. DS used to only nap in the swing at home, and would fall right asleep in the crib at DC.

  • DD1 slept in a crib or a pack and play, but would only nap in her swing before starting daycare. They transitioned her to nap in her crib.
