I am so mad and feeling incredibly guilty...
a few months ago my DH & I made the decision to give our two kitty-cats away because A) he hated them
I couldn't take care of them (boxes, etc.) and C) we just didn't/don't have the time for them. I found a young woman who seemed super sweet & was so excited to get them both.
Got a call on my lunch hour from our local Humane Society because our name is still attached to the microchips... one of the kitties was picked up (in the pouring rain) today & when I explained that we had given them away to this woman, the lady informed me that they have dealt with her before and she's current in jail!!! WTF! I am apparently a horrible judge of character.
So my DH is very much against us taking the kitty back and swears that if we let the Humane Society find him a home, he'll be better off but I feel like the worst person in the world for just leaving him there.
*sniffle* yep, still crying at my desk...
Re: Crying at work
If you wanted to keep the kitten but not change the litter yourself, and your DH wasn't willing to do it, you could get something like this:
https://www.catgenie.com/
This is expensive and NOT for everyone, but I just wanted to make sure that you knew it was an option.
We looked into other options but the fur was also an issue & my stepson is mildly allergic =( Seemed like a better idea all around to find them a loving, attentive home. I would have surrendered them to the Humane Society to begin with if they would have let me insist the two go together... Not sure that matters at this point.
Not sure about the proper term, but you could sponser the cat/s for a month or two... pay their costs for food and care so they would have more of a chance of a home being found. Would probably be done as a donation.... then the HS can check more closely into the people who intend to do the adoption since they wil have more experience and knowledge if there is someone who has been neglectful of animals in the past. Definitly not something you could expect to be able to do.
This. I would want to make sure they're a no kill shelter. If the cats (or I guess it's just one cat) aren't kittens, it can take some time for them to get adopted.
