Richard Mourdock should choke on something...

It's ridiculous we even have to oppose such viewpoints at this day in age- honestly!  I can almost absolutely vomit from words spoken toward rape being lessened whatsoever.  It is a terrible, vile act.  I cannot imagine what a woman goes through after experiencing such a horrible occurance, and then be faced with a resulting pregnancy.  How dare any of these men speak on behalf of any woman, especially women who have experienced violence of this magnitude.  This just pisses me off...

  • Amen. It its truly upsetting that people still think these things. Sometimes I wonder if it is a strategy to make their agenda of making all abortions illegal justifiable. "It's okay if you get pregnant as a result of rape, God wanted this to happen to you". Makes me sick.

  •  As a conservative I don't feel this way.  All the conservative people I know do not feel this way.  Unfortunately it is the azzhats and the minority  that make the headlines (It sell).

To me this election in not about a war on women, I think that is a left wing tactic to try to draw the eye away from the real issues, such as the economy!

Abortion is here to stay it would take an enormous amount of effort to try to overturn Roe vs. Wade and simply there are not enough people who feel passionately against it to see it done.  The supreme court would have to start ruling against abortions, or they would have to vote in enough people to congress to change the constitution or pass a bill.  I just don't see it happening.

  • The sad thing is these are pretty common beliefs. Rape is so under reported because of the way women get treated when they do come forward. If you're on a date with a guy people will say you are claiming to be raped because you slept with him and regretted it or you're just trying to get back at him for not wanting to be with you. It's sick. I read an article about rape victims being forced to share custody of the child from the rape with their convicted attackers and most of the comments were "Well of course they should have shared custody, what if the woman was lying about being raped" and "If the guy is paying child support it's only fair he has shared custody otherwise it wouldn't be fair". So being a CONVICTED violent sexual offender isn't reason enough to deny visitation rights? And if people can sit there and say if a woman has sex she should have to support raise a baby that comes from that or she shouldn't have sex, these men are choosing to possibly impregnate these women (I refuse to call it sex) so why wouldn't they have to support the child financially?

I don't even think it's a conservative point of view, they are just the most vocal about it. It's just the way the general population views women.

  • I agree that voting on this one issue alone would be naive but I also feel like it's time for politicians to stop talking about it then.

You believe this baby is a gift from God? Great. What if I don't believe in your God? Why should I have to accept gifts from a God I don't believe in?

Maybe that's poorly phrased but I don't believe passing laws based on what one thinks is a sin is good policy. There are plenty of religions out there with different outlooks and if all of their sins were against the law, we'd be a very sad country indeed.

  • Honestly, It's pretty embarrassing being from the state he could "represent".  But, as previous posters have said...it's a common belief around here.  Vomit.

I just am so sick of women's health being a political topic.  Is it 1960?  Why aren't we debating testicular cancer or the vasectomy??  Vomit.

Whether or not it's a common conservative viewpoint, whether or not abortion is safe from being repealed/overridden, I think that when a politician who is running for election makes such a disgusting remark -that is news.  Wouldn't you want to know if the person you plan on voting for is a racist, whether or not they plan on passing a law to go back to segregation? How is this any different? I am not a one-issue voter, but if a politician ever said something like that where I live, I would most certainly not vote for that person on the basis of those remarks alone, without even flinching. If they believe something that repulsive, chances are most everything else they believe/represent is going to go against my own choices/beliefs.

Politicians need to stop talking about rape - they are the ones making this a a political issue, not the left wing. No one is forcing them to say this stuff, they are doing so on their own free will.
