Getting going in the Mornings

Does anyone else have a hard time getting going in the mornings?  I can empty the dishwasher and put on a load of laundry but that's about it!  I have been meaning to jump in the shower for over and hour today & just can't seem to get there.

I would LOVE it if I could get up, shower & get dressed before attempting to do anything else.  I also wish I could do this before DD woke up but she wakes up when she hears the smallest noise so that's not an option.

For those of you that manage to be productive before noon any advice is appreciated!

Re: Getting going in the Mornings

  • I use our mornings as my cleaning time (well up until this past week when I haven't done much of anything).  I prefer to not shower until after I've cleaned or else I feel icky all over again.  Don't know why.  If it doesn't get done before E's nap it probably isn't getting done that day.  Then I'll shower while E naps.  My only motivation is that I know it's when E will play by herself the best allowing me to actually get stuff done.  Then we leave afternoons for going out if needed.

Seriously though, CJ's advice is spot on. I get up before both kids and head straight to the shower. I even brush my teeth in there just to avoid more time to get distracted with other things. Sometimes C will get up and come downstairs while I'm still in there, but she's used to entertaining herself for 20 minutes or so in the morning while I finish up. Once I'm showered, it's so much easier to get other things done. I notice that if I delay the shower, I'm never going to catch up that day.

  • I agree with cj! This is what I do in the mornings and it really changed how productive I am during the day. Plus I just feel better about myself after a morning shower!
  • First off thanks for posting this. I was feeling like I'm the only lazy momma out there. I'm going to try the shower trick too!

I can understand this. If I clean the bathroom, or wash a bunch of dishes (which means I end up getting drenched with dirty dish water), I feel dirty, too. I usually wash dishes in the evening, before changing into my PJs and going to bed, and I usually clean the bathroom right before I take a shower.

Since I haven't actually had my baby yet, I guess I'm sort of "lurking" over here. Looking for some ideas because I am NOT a morning person. I agree that making a regular schedule will make this all easier, though. Thankfully, my husband is starting a new job in two weeks (his training starts at 6 in the morning) and he'll have a regular work schedule for me to adjust to, and then baby will come.
