December 2012 Moms

Feeling big but everyone doesn't have to tell me

I am 32 1/2 weeks and I am so sick of people telling me I'm huge. I know I'm big, I'm growing a baby and I'm only 5'4....  There's not a whole lot of room to grow.  Daily I have people reminding me of how big I am and "are you sure your not having twins", or "wow there's no way your going till mid December".... Just gets old and I know I will be getting even bigger, I can only imagine the comments will get worse in the next 7 weeks. Sorry had to vent....can't wait till baby is here :)

Re: Feeling big but everyone doesn't have to tell me

  • I never understood why people can't just keep their stupid opinions to themselves. Why don't more people encourage pregnant women by telling them "you look beautiful!" More often? Seriously, most people, women especially, know that body changes are hard enough to deal with on their own, a few flattering words can go a long way!

I, however, have a bit of the opposite problem as my belly isn't very big I have big 'ole hips and sometimes I find myself getting annoyed by people not thinking I'm as pregnant as I am. I may not "look" 8 months pregnant, but I am! And big belly or not, I feel all the aches and pains of nearly 32 weeks of baby!

So, for posterity to just give you a bit of encouragement, I'm sure you look absolutely beautiful with your belly, no matter how big or small!

  • I had 2 random people tell me that I look like I'm ready to pop the other day.

Little did they know I wanted to pop them in the face! Jerks.

  • Meh. I honestly am not bothered by the "big" comments. I'm also 5' 4", 34 weeks, and have extra fluid that makes me look a but bigger than the "norm." I just smile and say, "Thank you! I grow humans, what is your super power?"

I've also taken to the phrase, "it's a baby, not a teacup poodle. What did you expect?" ;P

But anyway, don't let it bother you. When people say you're big, they're talking about a baby you're growing, not the pack of Oreos you just ate. Take heart in that!!

  • I will never understand why people think it's okay to comment on someone's size just b/c they are pregnant.

  • I just had a staff person (who's already on thin ice in my book) tell me that I'm definitely waddling and that I seem to have it down pat.  I just glared at him.  Dude, really, I know I'm fat - I'm pregnant.

  • Exactly!  I know I'm large.  I'm 33 weeks pregnant and 5'3.  Where do you expect the baby to go but out??  And why is ok to comment on a womans size just because she's pregnant??

You rock - I'm totally steeling the "not a teacup poodle" line.

  • I get the comments too, I can't go out without a handful of "ready to pop" comments, I agree it is frustrating!!! I feel like a boat as is!
  • It was/is just as maddening to have people tell me that the baby must be SO tiny just because of how compactly I carry. TBH, my daughter even surprised all the midwives in the practice i saw who bet a pound less than she was. I just say, well, my doctor has no concerns. Meanwhile, secretly, i was a little concerned because everyone kept saying she was going to be super tiny. She was 7lb 2oz!! I never ever comment on others' sizes, because big or small, you aren't doing the mother any favors.

  • Though I am annoyed with it too, it is comforting reading that happens to many other women. I was at a pumpkin patch the other day and someone asked if I was having twins, when I responded no trying to be poliet, they responded with, "well if you arent having twins then thats one big baby! " and I am only just 32 weeks. I guess now that makes me laugh because the doctor said from my last ultrasound my baby is a bit chubby but he just said it in medical terms. Ha. But yeah I am first time mom to be and shocked at the things / advice people say / give to you that dont even know you just because you have a baby bump!
