Any more ultrasounds?

Who else hasn't and won't have another ultrasound since the a/s at 20 weeks? My doctor doesn't do any more but I hear all the time on here about fluid level etc being checked through u/s towards the end. How do you know that baby and fluid level are still good? Are they just assuming that if it was at a good level at the a/s then it's all ok? Just curious to see how other doctor offices work. TIA!

Re: Any more ultrasounds?

  • that depends on your doctor. When I had DD I got one early because of some issues with my levels.  I got one at 24 weeks to check her growth and heart ( cause I am a diabetic), then I didn't get one until the very end to see how big she had gotten to determine if they wanted to enduce me.  How are your kick counts coming along? Most of the time unless there is a reason like a high risk pregnancy all they do is make you pee in a cup, check your weight, ask how you are feeling, get a quick heart sound with the doppler and say see you in a few weeks.

  • I had one a couple weeks ago to verify if my LO was breech or not. My new doc was certain that she wasnt but I knew she was, so she had to check to make sure. She is breech so I will have another one at 37 weeks to verify then.

  • I will have one more at 36 weeks to check position.

Kick counts are going great. She moves all the time. They just have me pee in a cup and check the heartbeat at every visit. It just makes me nervous not seeing her and checking things like fluid level for so long!

  • My appointments have been weight, BP, urine sample, belly measure and fetal heart rate only. At my next appt (in 2 weeks - I'll be 36 weeks) they will start to do internal exams each week. If they can't feel baby's head, they will do one to check position. Other than that, if everything stays as is, I won't have another one.

  • I had one at 25 weeks because I had really bad cramps but other than that no more for me. I also wonder how they will know if something is wrong. My doctor doesn't have patents do kick counts unless they notice something out of the ordinary.

  • My last ultrasound was at 24 weeks as the LO was uncooperative during the 20 week a/s. The plan was to only complete 1 other ultrasound at 37 weeks. After my appointment on Monday though we have another ultrasound planned for Thursday of next week since I'm measuring at the very low end. This is only being completed to check growth of the baby and make sure she's progressing smoothly.

  • I had one at 31 weeks to make sure my placenta moved out of the way.  But with my first I didn't have another one after 20 weeks.

  • I will have another one at 34 weeks just to check on her growth. I was wondering the same thing about the fluid levels etc, kind of makes you wonder.

  • Usually they'll start questioning the growth of the baby or the level of fluid based on the fundal height (the measurement they take with the tape measure.) They'll order a growth scan to check these things if you're measuring ahead/behind by a few weeks in most cases.

    Every office is different, though.

  • my doctor does another on at 36weeks to check fluid, position, and all that jazz but I know people who only had one at 12 and 20 weeks and some that only had one at 20 weeks. So it varies.

  • My doctor hasn't mentioned anymore......my pregnancy has been relatively low risk.

Every appt we do urine check, measurement, and check the heartbeat.

  • This was driving me insane too, I couldnt stand not seeing the baby, I didnt have movement for a cpl days at 31 weeks, and went to the hospital cause I was freaking out, anyways the doc did a bedside ultrasound for me, saw the baby, and confirmed lots of fluid etc, I dont know where you live, but if you went in for a reason then maybe you can request this, it sure put my mind at ease :) I am a worry wart though

  • I was supposed to get one a 32 weeks to check position, but it never happened. I'm severely jealous of the mamas who have had a third tri ultrasound. Wahhhh.

  • I had an ultrasound at 24 because they were unable to view all chambers of her heart at my 20 week ultrasound.  They noticed she was breeched and measuring ahead so I had another ultrasound at 31 weeks.  Due to her size (she's a big girl!!) they will have another ultrasound at 36 weeks to check her growth.  The odd thing is, my stomach measures right on schedule..it's through the ultrasounds that they have noticed she is measuring ahead...93% for weight & height.

  • I'm fairly certain that I won't have anymore - unless doctor is worried about baby Jack's position or something like that.

  • My last one was the a/s and I won't have another one unless something comes up that they want to check on.

  • I have to get a kidney ultrasound in a few weeks. It didn't click in my head to ask why I needed one until I was already home and noticed the paper said high risk 2/3 trimester. She was so casual about it and just said it and moved right along so I'm sure it's nothing major but still, the paper saying high risk is scary.

I'll be going in soon for another 3D of the baby as a practice client for the new girl at the studio I went to a few weeks ago. Super excited for that since last time Jax was all cuddled up to my placenta and was being difficult.

As far as making sure baby's ok, typically as long as your urine, bp, size, heartbeat etc are ok, you won't be sent for another one.

  • I was surprised with my last pregnancy that they wanted to do an u/s at 36 weeks to confirm position, etc.  But I was also being seen by a NP who had a student with her, so maybe that's why.

This time, I'm seeing a MW and there will be no more u/s.

  • I am HR, so I get them often.  Apparently from this point forward, twice a week to check my AFI.  I have GD, and a history of low AFI as well as being old and fat.  Soooo...as my OB told me on my first appt- I am SUPER HR.

    But not on BR!  YAY!!

  • The only reason I got another ultrasound after my 20 week a/s is because of my 3D/4D.
