Circumcisions..

LO got his circ about 3 days ago.. Its still very red but some of it has gone down, i guess. When is it supposed to not be red?

I am suuuper paranoid about it getting infected. Especially since I have a staph infection. I am terrified of him getting it. even though ive been super clean.

He doesnt have the plastibell. IT was just stitched.. and it doesnt seem to bother him when we wipe it... so how long did it take for yours to heal/look normal?

Re: Circumcisions..

  • It has been 9 days for ours and it is still a red/purple color.  Our doctor said it was normal for it to look like that still.

  • Ours healed in about 7 days. It was red at first then in a few days turned normal color. We never wiped it. We just put vasaline on it and that repels the pee to keep it clean. We put it on gauze and stuck it on the penis for a few days. Iy was just easier that way. Then we did wash around the area with soap and water nightly. But never the cut.

  • DS's was red and swollen for a few weeks, then it started to look better. The head of his penis is still usually reddish-purple, but his pedi said this is normal.

  • We had a week of redness and a few days after that before everything looked normal. Throughout the entire process he was fine and never seemed to be affected by it. We put Vaseline on it and around the area at every diaper change and it all worked out.

    Good luck!

This, except change the 7 day heal time to 10. :)

  • It took about a week for it to heal and about another few days to look "normal". Just keep lathering on the vaseline - thats about the best you can do. Another thing our Dr told us - every other day make sure the skin on the shaft is pulled down away from the head (so it won't adhere) which we did.  I have a friend whose son has a side where the skin reattached to the head. :/
