BLW question

Let me start by saying that I'm not concerned but instead "curious."

Those of you doing BLW (or have done it before), have your LOs started swallowing food yet? At first, there was a lot of gnawing, and I knew it was okay that he wasn't really consuming a whole lot. Now, it seems like there's less food left over when he's done, and I think he's actually swallowing some of the non-squishy food (he ate mashed potatoes from the beginning). His diapers are getting thicker and thicker (to DH's horror), which also makes me think that he's "getting" solids now. It's not backing him up or anything, which is great.

So, are your LO's swallowing any food yet? I feel like now that his gag reflex has relaxed enough to swallow food, I'm MORE nervous about choking! We're not quitting though; that's for sure.

Re: BLW question

  • Oh yeah! B eats a ton. I am always surprised how much she actually manages to consume. I just make sure it's super soft.  The broccoli I steamed is soft enough that I could mash it up with my fingers if I wanted to. I'm sure it doesn't do much for the nutritional content but I'm not too worried about that just yet. She's also had banana, avocado, carrots and sweet potato.

  • DS has right from the start, he's a machine. It took DD a couple months to ingest much, like they tell you is normal, so I've been blown away lol.

  • DS started eating pretty quickly, after about 2 weeks. We CD, so I can usually tell by the diapers whether he has eaten much or not. For the past few days, eating has been hit or miss (mostly miss) with his bottom teeth coming in.

  • I can only assume so haha.  There has been little to no gagging anymore, and it seems like at least a quarter of it is neither on the tray, or in the highchair seat, so I have to imagine it's in his belly Wink  Also, solid poops.  Yuck.  We also CD so that has been a fun new activity.

My DD has also swallowed right from the start. Sometimes she actually eats more than her brother (3 and very picky) at dinner.

  • Matilda still doesn't seem to eat much, she plays with it. Tonight I gave her a bit of hamburger and she was into it but it was all on the floor after and anything she had "eaten" I found in her mouth after. She also had potato, pepper strips and brocolli. I guess we'll see in tomorrow's diapers!

she is eating pur?e at daycare though, go figure. They said today she ate 4 cubes and seemed to want more. I'm going to send yogurt as well next week.
