B/H's ... making me nervous

Braxton Hicks freak me out... I'm 18 weeks and having them a couple of times a day.  ugh, anyone else having them daily?

Re: B/H's ... making me nervous

  • I had them several times an hour with my dd, she was born early. With progesterone I still get about 5 to 10 a day now.

  • I am too!  I've noticed them a lot right after peeing.  I actually just talked to my doctor about them today and she assured me that as long as they are coming frequently (4 in an hour) or accompanied by blood or other discharge, they are completely normal.  They are still unsettling though.

  • Yup and they are no fun. Drinking water and resting always helps. I can't always rest, though.
  • i had some about 2 weeks ago that freaked me out so bad i went to the er. granted i was already in the building for work but still.

my dr had told me about them, but i really wasnt expecting them this early so i guess i was just caught off gaurd. i still get them periodically but i try to remember they're harmless as long as they're not accompanied by other symptoms

  • Thanks guys.  I have no other symptoms with them.  Just short bursts of tightening and pressure.  Almost feels like I have a ball in certain areas of my uterus then goes away, other times it's the whole thing.  I'll talk to my mid-wife on Tuesday as well.  Ugh all the things I never knew about with pregnancy.  I"m a pediatric nurse I do kids not pregnant women so everything is freaking me out.
  • I don't trust the whole "if your not bleeding everything is fine" and I also never feel reassured when my cervix is still "closed and long" because with DD I had regular BH contrax at 33.5 weeks but my ffn was negative and my cervix was 0% effaced and completely shut.  I had a "less than one percent" chance of going into labor within the next two weeks, and I did, a week and a half later.  They never told me to take it easy or rest or anything and I never had any bleeding...my water just randomly broke after that, so I would just listen to your body and if you feel like you have a lot of BH each day, take it easy, drink lots of water, and don't over exert yourself at all from here on out.
