Brianna Maddison came early!!!

Brianna Maddison is here! 6lbs 8oz, 18 1/2 inches. She was born Monday 10/22/12 at 36.2 weeks after about hour of labor. Her due date was 11/17/12.

Back Story: We were about 3.5 hours away from home for a last weekwnd away. Saturday we did some sight seeing and some shopping but nothing very intense. Saturday night I had some contractions but I thought it was cramping from going into the swimming pool.

Sunday morning I was stil having contractions about every 5 minutes, so we packed up and headed home. On the way home I checked with the on-call who said to just head to the hospital.

We were at the hospital being monitered with contractions every 3-5 minutes for about 5 hours, but was "maybe a fingertip dialated" and 70% effaced, but with no progress they sent us home. My ob was the doctor on call and he said "dont worry- nothings happening- I'll see you at your apt on Thursday"

6am Monday morning, I rolled onto my hands and knees in bed for a contraction and my water broke- it felt like a pop. I went to check and saw I lost my mucus plug. (FYI for other FTM- I didnt know what to expect but it was a sticky pile of slime about the size of a half dollar, some was clear and some the color of old blood. Also the fluid was clear and had no odor what so ever. I was freaked out because when I wiped I had some light spotting but they said this was normal.)

I called DH to come back from work to get me. After 20 minutes I was too restless and uncomfortable to wait anymore, so I called him back and said I would just drive and meet him at the hospital.

I got there just before 7am and was 4cm dialated. They said I had to have blood drawn before they could order the epidural. My contractions were so bad that I couldn't stay still and they weren't getting a good reading on LO's heartbeat so they atached the internal moniter, the on-call said I was 8cm and put a rush on the epidural! When my MD showed he said I was 10cm and ready to go. I told them no I can't yet because I haven't had the medicine yet!!!!

I pushed for 5 or 6 contractions. Two pushes for her head and one for her body. Brianna Maddison was born at 8:18am. Early and fast but healthy! The doctor showed us a knot in her cord (it looked like a pretzel), so it's good that she came early because the knot could have tightened as she kept growing. He said that someone must have been watching over her.

I have to say that I was planning on having every medication available. I am a baby. In all honesty the contractions were the worse part. Yes, even worse than the labor. I had some small tearing, and Brianna's head has bruising from going throught the canal so fast and hard. FYI for other FTM- I thought I would be wayyyy more sore after but it wasn't bad.They had me walk from the delivery room to the recovery room. I was afraid to use the bathroom after but they give you a spray bottle for water to rinse yourself off, and I used face clothes to pat myself dry instead of toilet paper. Also I would have packed some regular pads because the ones they had were gigantic and I didn't have that much bleeding.

We are so glad she is here and healthy, it's so nice to have her in our arms to snuggle with
