Pain with nipple shield

I'm having really bad pinching lately with my nipple shield. The last two weeks or so. It's getting really painful. It's only when he's sucking. Not 24/7. Any suggestions or ideas why? I use nipple cream from EMAB with it.

    The LC who gave me mine said over time I may need a bigger shield....I would the next bigger size.

    I had similar pain which caused me so say 'eff it!' and throw it away. The tips of m nips were almost blistering and LO was treating them like a bottle nipple, gnawing on them instead of sucking. They are still healing but I've been shield free for 10 days.

    Are your nipples cracked or blistered at all? I had to pump several times a day when using the shield to give them a break from the pain. I hope the pinching stops for you. It's definitely awful. I got to a point where I was dreading each feeding, which isn't a good feeling.

    They are looking a little cracked and when I tried EPed one day it did feel better. I do feel like he's gnawing on them. I tried going without the other day but he freaked at my let down again [why we are using it in the first place].

    first, check and see if you need a bigger size I believe 27mm is the largest you can get in stores, but you can order even larger online (at least this was the case when I used them with DS1.)

    secondly, try hand expressing a tiny bit before putting the shield on, get your nips wet and "lube them up" so they slide better in the shield (which is essentially what they are doing)

    but if it doesn't let up the entire feed, I'm going to go with the first solution will help you more than the second.

    Why would I need a bigger size? I'm just trying to wrap my head around it. My nipple didn't grow and wouldn't he chomp down if it was too big? What would getting a bigger size do? Not doubting it...just not seeing the logic.

    Before I ditched the nipple shield, I started having a lot of pain randomly one day. For me it was the nipple shield rubbing and inflaming my montgomery glands. It was the final straw that had me ditching the shield. I think it started from the edge of the cut out part of the shield irritating the Montgomery gland and progressed to terrible pain. I'm not sure how to stop the pain without getting rid of the shield.

    Yeah I have some Montgomery Glands that are getting really irritated. I looked online and there isn't a bigger size. Ugh. This concerns me as he does NOT like to nurse without it :[
