Feeling bad :(

Hey ladies!

So my 6 week old LOVES her swing, and I LOVE it too! Sometimes I joke with ppl and tell them is the "second mom" or "babysitter". :) I can't help but feel bad when I put her in it. I will feed her, spend a little time making faces, talking and singing to her then I am like, "okay swing time". I put her in the "babysitter" and start doing things. She is content, doesn't cry and will usually fall asleep in it. I just can't help but feel bad about putting her in the swing. I feel like I should be nurturing her mind or something. Please tell me I am not the only one who does this and that this isn't a bad thing.

  • Dd is content in the swing so she spends a lot of time there! I do put her on her play mat and in her vibrating chair but she prefers the swing! As long as you aren't leaving her in it all day then she's fine!

  • What type of swing do u have? My LO hates his swing, maybe I need a different one!

  • Why not get a wrap carrier and try wearing her? You can still get lots done, but she will be able to see your face/hear your voice and get more "mommy time" (and stimulation for her developing brain). I'm not a big fan of leaving kids in swings due to flat-head risks either. You aren't doing anything "bad," but you should be aware of how your choices impact LO's development.

  • I got my swing from my brother. Not sure the brand but its a cradle swing, rocks side to side not back and forth. Pretty nice for free! Every baby is different though. My LO does not care for the vibrating chair. I have a carrier and she does not like it. I would love to walk around with her right next to me! We could keep each other warm and exchange warm looks. Maybe I don't have a good one. What kind would you recommend? I have one that I got from Target (the body wrap kind) then i have a more sturdy one where her legs would be hanging out but her stomach is on my chest.
  • My son is 6 weeks old and LOVES his swing. It's the only way he goes to sleep at night. Don't feel guilty
  • Babies need some relaxing time so they aren't over stimulated, sounds like you have a nice balance. LO used to love her swing but now she prefers the floor where she can kick and move more. I often take breaks to do stuff and let her kick happily on the floor.

  • Do NOT feel bad! Us moms need time to get stuff done, too WITHOUT our kids, and we can't go around all the time with a baby attached to us. They need time away from us too, and it sounds like you interact with her normally and if she's content in her swing, be thankful - some moms don't get that luxury! Take caution to her neck though, if her head is sideways and she sleeps like that too long, her muscles can develop abnormally and she could possibly need physical therapy - it happened to some friends of mine who never did tummy time and let her sleep in her swing a lot!

  • Thanks for all the feedback! I was not aware of the neck development piece. I try and do tummy time daily and when we hang out I usually have her chest to chest on me (kind of a cheating tummy time).

Not going to lie...I was feeling bad after reading one of the post about being aware of my baby's development last night. :( Not that I am complaining because I wanted people to respond to this post. So I appreciate her comment. So today I tried the carrier thing again and she was not having it! I found myself keeping her up because I wanted to make sure I was spending as much time as I could with her since the carrier was not working. I was like, dang...I have to see if anyone else posted about this because this is exhausting (I am still in my PJs at 4pm) and thank goodness I see some post that make me feel a bit better. :) As my mom always tells me "you new mom's worry so much" and I know I do. So as my LO swings away in her swing I write this and I am off to change out of my pjs before my hubs gets home.
