We have an older home with drafty windows, we rent so we aren't going to replace the windows and our landlords have been doing 1-2 every year. So, until they get them all replaced we have to use plastic to keep the drafts out. With the baby coming this year I have been trying to find the best plastic to use. Can anyone suggest a really good brand to use? I want something that won't rip easily and will last all winter. I'm in Illinois so our winter can be cool one day and frozen tundra the next
Re: Does anyone have to put plastic up on their windows?
We put it up on the windows on the side that gets the most wind. Our house is newer with decent windows but we get a TON of wind. We've noticed it makes a difference, so you may notice an even bigger one. Any of the weather proofing stuff you can buy at hardware stores is good. We use a brand in a bright green box - sorry, can't remember the name! It comes with double-sided tape and you put it up then shrink it with a hair dryer. It also comes with things to put in your outlets, which also let in a suprising amount of cold air.

This, and "warm windows" (sort of quilted/lined curtains)
I just bought those types of curtains for LO room on Amazon. I found nice ones that were around 20 each. I have the blackout ones in our dinning room, that seems to be the most breezy, and I have the couch in front of the living room windows. We should do plastic, but I like to see out of the window.
minervacullen -- Which curtains did you get from Amazon? I've been looking for some for LO's room, but haven't heard about anyone that's liked theirs where they didn't cost a fortune (would love the PB ones, but $$$).
Also, give the 3M brand window plastic kit a shot -- Once you shrink it with a hairdryer, you can bounce a quarter off of it (it's really tight) and you can see through it like a normal window. It's a little bit of a pain to get the tape off in the spring, but a little rubbing alcohol usually does it.
The ones I got are out of stock, but I almost got these ones

The ones in my dinning room are from Target. I think I paid about the same in store.
I will give the 3M plastic a shot, thanks!
I'm soo not crafty, but if you are you might be able to DYI it. My friend made a pair for her son's room because she couldn't find a cheaper pair.
