Sorry I haven't been on in ages, I'm actually currently in NY for my extended vacation from TX and John and I have been super busy! That's a story for a different time though.

I was wondering if those of you in the Albany area could help me. DH may be getting a job offer there and I just don't know anything about it. Apparently growing up outside of Rochester did nothing for teaching me about our capitol. Of course the location would be amazingly better than where we are now, since right now it's 2 hours to good groceries and absolutely nothing to do in terms of fun. The reason it's a question for us is because he currently loves his job (just not the location) and the job that he may or may not get an offer for in Albany is boring, tedious, and just plain not his idea of a dream job... BUT, it would get us out of where we are now and only a few hours from our families.
So anyway, can you give me an idea of the good suburbs to live? We would probably want to buy a house and would love to have a few acres, would that be possible within a decent commuting distance from the city? Also, where are the best schools, parks, etc.? Any info you can give is great, if he gets the offer, I want to make sure we make the right decision. Thanks in advance

Thanks, reply sent!
I am not in Albany now but I was born and raised there!
My dad worked for NYS and so he worked in the city, but I lived my entire life in Colonie. It's a great suburb with 2 great school districts (in my opinion--I may be biased as my mom worked for both of them).
I have many friends still in the area--a lot live in Clifton Park, which is another really nice area that doesn't have TOO bad of a commute.
I think if you were to wind up there, you would find plenty to do.
GL!
