I will be 35 in April and we are hoping to try for #2 once my cycles get back on track. If we are blessed with #2, will I be considered "high risk" once I turn 35?
I am pretty sure you will be because 35 is the age where the risks start increasing. I was 38 when I was pregnant with DS and they pulled out all of their tricks. I ended up getting ultrasounds almost every month and was offered genetic counseling and testing too. On the bright side, DS was just fine and I got to see him develop from a pine nut up through 7 mos!
I guess they have to make the demarcation (sp?) somewhere, so yes 35+ is tagged as "high risk". I was 38 when I delivered my 1st and am preggers now at 39. A lot of how your are handled depends upon your doctor(s) I believe. Mine didn't make a big fuss about it at all. They were more concerned about my overall general health - weight, blood pressure, etc - than anything else.
I was offered genetic counseling and more info on genetic abnormalities, but otherwise my OB dealings have been pretty standard.
I'm in the same boat as you. I will also be 35 in April and will TTC again before too long. Yes, you will be considered "high-risk", but most likely you will just have more monitoring than a younger mom. I had some abnormal testing and amnio results with DS (which thankfully turned out to be wrong) and had to me monitored monthly throughout the pregnancy. It wasn't too big of a deal, and it was actually pretty cool to see how the ultrasounds changed from month to month.
I am about to turn 35 too. My doctor didn't act like it'd be too big a deal for my next pregnancy. He just told me that the chances of genetic abnormalities increases with mother's age, etc.
I was 36 when I delivered P, now 37 pregnant with #2. I was tagged "AMA" but never had any other factors marking me as high risk. After my NT scan we learned the risks for downs and the trisomies were low, so I didn't have any other testing (CVS or amnio). I had the 20 week scan and then didn't get another ultrasound until 36 weeks. Given that I did not have any complications or risk factors outside of my age, my OB gave me the same level of care he would a 27-year-old.
On an unrelated note, I'm a huge Giants fan too. We have season tickets ) Are you in the NY/NJ area?
I am in the same situation. My OB had mentioned that amnio or CVS is routinely recommended in advance of all the prenatal screening tests for women over 35. I know it's kind of an arbitrary number, but it makes me feel like some sort of an old ridiculous hag trying to have a baby so "late."

Nice! I grew up in Middlesex County and went to college in Essex County (Montclair State). And somehow I landed down here! LOL Big game on Sunday. Let's hope they can keep the momentum going and beat the Cowgirls!
You will be considered 'advanced maternal age' but not necessarily high risk. I had all of the testing done with both of mine but opted out of the amnio after getting my results from the NT test. You will be fine, your Dr will keep you informed on everything you need to know.

My dr said at 35 you are considered high risk, but really all they will do it run more tests, amnio, etc. We are going to start trying asap because that amnio needle scares the crap out of me, so I want to have the next one before 35.
As for the other conversation going on... my dad has season Giants tickets, but he rarely goes, he usually gives them away. DH was at the game this past Sunday.

I hear that!!! Oh, and if your Dad is ever looking to rid himself of some tickets, feel free to let me know ;-)

You never HAVE to get an amino at any age.
THIS. You can choose not to have the amnio, your Dr. can't force you to have one.

I think Liz knows she doesn't HAVE to get an amnio under any circumstances, however she might want to get one if she knows the risks of genetic abnormalities are higher, so she doesn't want to have to cross that bridge.
Hmm, Mack, who's advice do you think it would be better to take, my doctor's or some people on the internet who clearly think I don't know that I have the ability to actually make decisions on my own?

I was 37 and 41 when I had my babes.
I was high risk for other reasons but I think they still would have considered me high risk because of my age.
