endless "art"

What does everyone do with the endless "art" projects their kids churn out.  DD1 will produce anywhere from 10-20 "masterpieces" a day sometimes.  I ask which she wants to keep and she says all of them.  Do you stealthily dispose of some?  Same goes for the stuff that comes home from school.  Some is lovely and special, but most of it just isn't :)

    I keep a few special pieces of art and the rest get tossed in the trash.  I have been caught before throwing away the artwork by DD and her feelings were hurt.  Now I make sure to dispose of the work right before I take out the trash when DD is nowhere in sight.

    I'm an art teacher, so of course, I would LOVE to keep every single thing she makes.  It's just not possible, though.  I have kept quite a few, though, and I plan to take pictures of them and make a book thru Shutterfly or Snapfish of them.  Much easier that way.  I love this one from Shutterfly - it's called Mini Masterpieces:  https://www.shutterfly.com/photo-books/custom-path

    I have a canvas painting  and a watercolor painting of dd's hanging in our hallway.  For Christmas, my husband sent dd's one of dd's drawings to a company that turned her scribbles into a design on fabric.  He had it made into a tote bag for me (and a matching one for dd.)  I wrapped the leftover fabric around a canvas and it hangs above my desk.

    I give a lot of her drawings to her aunts and grandparents. 

    I hang lots on the fridge and then sometimes it 'disappears.'

    I date and save a few here and there and take pictures of some of them.  I love Art Teacher's book idea though!  Oh, and I never let them know that they are getting thrown out.  That would be sad..

    I like the book idea from Shutterfly or take pictures of the "art" and add them in a digital frame

    I keep a handful or anything that's "new" - first rainbow, etc. but toss the bulk of them.

    Honestly, most get tossed.  I do it after they go to sleep so they don't notice.  I save the extra special ones and I also use a lot of things as birthday cards - I either cut up bigger pieces or use the whole thing.  DD#1 just brought home a really cool butterfly painting and we are going to fold it and write on the unpainted part and mail it to the girls cousin for her birthday card.

    I took pictures of all of them.  I kept the ones the painted on canvas and the nicer watercolors.  Pretty much everything else got tossed.

    For the drawings done on computer paper or smaller I put them in sheet protectors in a large 3 ring binder. Only the best ones & they're labeled on the back. Some of his early drawings have amazing descriptions! He also loves to look through the book and show it off to other people.

    For larger projects from school and such I have a plastic under-the-bed tub. One day I'll do something fun with those, like the shutterfly book PP spoke of.

    A friend of mine said that she threw a bunch of her son's art work away and her son found them in the garbage and got really upset.  My friend's response: "I can't believe Daddy did that!"

    DS is an aspiring artist and like you said there is an overflow of "masterpieces" but I just can't bring myself to throw them away. I have folders and folders organized by age and I keep anything he's put some time into. It's definitely getting a little out of hand, but he's very proud of his work :). I'm always buying him art supplies on Utrecht, and we've taken trips into the city to visit the MoMA and The Met so it's become more then just a hobby to him. It's a lot of work to catalog, but I'm very proud of his work ethic, and its a great way for him to spend his time without breaking the bank.
