Shopping carts

Are you putting LO in the shopping cart seat yet, or still wearing or using the car seat?

Re: Shopping carts

  • Good post! I'm wondering the same. I still take baby in carseat, but I'm thinking its about time to put LO in shopping cart seat...just need to buy a cover for the seat.
  • Loading the player...
  • He goes in the cart now. He sits up really good so I just put him in there. If he is tired and needs a nap I lay him down either in the seat or if we aren't getting much I put him in the basket part laying on a blanket. We also have a cart cover which is nice when for when I lay him down in the seat part and just from keeping him from chewing on the cart since he tries to!

  • I just started last week. My SIL gave me a cart cover so he is super comfy and entertained in there. It is such a relief bc up until then I put the car seat in the cart part and had no where to put groceries! I was too nervous to put the carrier on the seat part

  • We've been using the shopping cart cover for a while now, and he really likes it.  The first time I was a little nervous how he would do, but he does really well.  I just try to time shopping trips around when he'll be awake.
  • We just tried the cart for the first time this past weekend and DS loved it.  He still doesn't have a super long stamina for sitting up on his own so I put some blankets around him to help keep him secure/propped up, but I figure we won't even need those soon enough.  We have a shopping cart cover with places to attach a few toys so that kept him entertained plus I think he loved the new perspective of seeing everything around him.  It was fun to watch him!

  • He's been sitting up in the cart for a little over a month now.  I use a cart cover or use the sanitizing wipes most stores have near the carts to wipe it down then strap him in.  He loves looking around and it has made grocery shopping so much easier!
  • I've been putting DS in the shopping cart for probably 6 weeks.  We have a cover and he sits up really well.  He LOVES sitting in the cart!  It's so cute, he gets so excited when I put him in, he bounces and smiles like crazy.  It's made shopping so much easier!

  • I've been wearing DD in the bjorn, but after hearing how much they love sitting in the cart, I might have to switch!
  • We take our snap and go, but we always do groceries together.  I can imagine the cart is easier if you shop on your own.

  • She has been sitting in the cart about a month now. She is much happier being able to sit up and look at more things. My only complaint is that we have lost a sock that way and have almost lost a number of others and a boot. I have to make sure she is wearing tight socks on days we go shopping. lol.

She started without a cover in the cart but I found one for $8. :) Little more work with the cover but then I don't have to worry about her chewing on the cart plus a little more comfy for her.

  • i keep him in car seat or have him in the Bjorn carrier. He's a peanut and a wiggle worm, so even with the cart cover, I don't feel like he is secured in there. At least he can't wiggle his way out of the car seat.

  • I still take the bjorn in case he gets tired but he is mostly in the cart with the cart cover. We also do the cart cover for high chairs when out to eat.
  • We've been in the cart for awhile now. He loves being able to look around and see things.

  • Like so many others:

Started putting her in the cart with cart cover - which I LOVE. DD is a great sitter and loves being upright and seeing everyone. :)

Still bring have Boba in the car, just in case she wants to sleep or snuggle.

  • We just started using the convertible car seat, so no more infant car seat.  I haven't tried the cart yet, but I plan to soon.  DH has done all the grocery shopping pretty much since I was 8 months pregnant.  He claims its easier that way....what he really means is its easier to get OREOS that way.  We did have our first high chair in public experience though...that went well.

  • Yup, he is sitting in the cart seat. I usually put a cover over it and strap him in. He loves sitting in the cart seat.

  • Still wearing. She sits up great but carts are icky. I'll probably get a cart cover.

  • Shopping cart for sure. I could wear her, but it's actually easier just to pop her in the cart and she's happier that way. She's been in the cart for over a month now... she has always despised her car seat, so that was never an option for us, and carrying her was sort of a pain, so as soon as she could sit up reliably, she was in the cart. Our local grocery store also as shopping carts for newborns, with a car seat-ish chair facing you built onto it... I used those all the time when she was younger.

I've thought about putting her in the front of the cart..but it made me nervous about her falling to one side or the other.  My dd is a super strong sitter, but doesn't the motion of the cart cause them to get more off balance?  Do your kids hold on to the cart?  I don't know if she'd get the concept right now of holding on.  And like a pp poster said, she'd be too busy trying to "eat" the handle bars then to sit upright properly.

If she's tired she sometimes falls to one side but I just stick my purse in next to her if that happens.

She has no problem keeping her balance. She holds onto the cart or sometimes my hands and I steer with my arms.

The cart cover makes it a little softer for her and solves and cart eating issues. It also keeps her more upright because of the seat belt thing.

  • stroller.. People are ignorant and don't think twice about bumping into carts round here... they tend to be a bit more courteous of a stroller and then I won't have to rip someones head off and feed it to them down their throat.  Not to mention the carts are gross and I don't think even the sanitary wipes could convince me to put him in one of those...  lets just say I don't live in the high end of town  LOL

I'll take the inconvenience over convenience + ickies anyday and we always shop together anyway so one gets the cart one gets the stroller... I know that isn't an option for some people...so in that case I would have a can of lysol..  a garbage bag and a stroller cover and mittens and  a surgical mask.. then my kid can go in one of our local carts ... I haven't even put him in a restaurant high chair, they arent much better ..specially since most are wooden and cleaned up by the 16 year old  bussin tables with a gross cloth that's been used to clean 15 tables already.

But think of the immune system your kid would have if you lived round here lol.Wink

  • I started putting her in the cart as soon as she was sitting well. At Target and the grocery store we get the big double (triple?) carts and for now she and DS sit across from each other and entertain each other. When she's a bit bigger I'll just put her in the seat next to him. I hate maneuvering the big things but DS still gets tired walking if it's a long shopping trip.

I love this age because it's still so new so she loves it and is entertained the whole time. It'll be about a year or so from now when she wants to get out and walk/run that's hard!

  • We just started putting him in the cart seat a couple of weeks ago. It makes him seem like such a big boy to me! I actually felt a bit sentimental about it like his other milestones. Such a silly little thing I never thought twice about before becoming a mom!
