Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP Convertible

Anyone have this car seat?  Thoughts?  I like how roomy it seems width-wise and I don't want anything that doesn't have the seat-belt style latch clips (like my Chicco Keyfit uses vs. the clip style used by Graco).  I also think that the fabric seems more durable and easy to clean, not the cheap fuzzy-looking stuff that seems to be on every other seat, including the high-end Britaxes, but I feel like I need some reassurance on this choice before I spend the cash on it...Thanks!

  • FWIW, not all Graco seats have that LATCH system. I have the My Size 70, and it has the push button LATCH.

That being said the Peg convertible gets awesome reviews and is recommended by a lot of techs. It has a pretty tall shell.....

  • I didn't realize that about the Graco's, thanks for the info!

I am not sure if the other Graco seats like the Smart Seat or the ComfortSport have them, but I know that the Size 4 Me/My Size does for sure. I own the My Size, a True Fit and 5 Britax seats, and they all have the push button LATCH. :) My True Fit is the Spiro print (I think that is what it is called, I'd have to double check, but its blue) and the fabric is awesome and washable. Its not fuzzy at all. I really like it.

My My SIze seat is the Thunder print, and it is really nice as well. I previously owned the Branson pattern, and I wasn't a big fan of that material.

I am a Child Passenger Safety Tech, so I have a bit of a car seat obsession. lol

  • My Britax seats do not have fuzzy covers.

I think the older ones are the ones with the fuzzy covers. I have 3 of the Classic seats and all 3 covers are fuzzy either all over or in places. I own 2 of the Boulevard 70s, and I have 3 covers for them, none of which are fuzzy anywhere. :)

  • I had this car seat until very recently, and used it for more than a year. It's definitely durable; we used it in two cars, with our stroller base and on several flights. I think it weighs slightly more than the Graco seat but I didn't really notice a difference. I'd get the same one next time around.

By your post, I am guessing you had the infant seat and not the convertible. :)

  • We have this seat, I think it's pretty great.  We ended up choosing it over the Britax because of the longer RF capability, cool fabric and more sturdy headrest (and I hated the new Britax Hugs and harness system).

I love the fabric on the Peg!  It's well padded and stays put.  DD is nice and cool in her seat and she has no trouble going to sleep.  The install with the latch system is a breeze and the seat has a nice compact profile while still providing a lot of side protection.

The cons are the Peg is a heavy and expensive seat that never seems to go on sale.  Tightening the harness isn't as smooth and effortless as I would have liked and my experience with Peg Perego customer service was abysmal.

I recently traveled and used a friend's older Graco seat and it made me realize that the Peg was money well spent.

  • We got the Peg convertible.  I was attracted to the durable, cool fabric and the extended rear-facing capability (up to 45 lbs).  I also love the look of the seat vs. most other carseats.

I'm mostly happy with it, but can't say that I love it yet.  Like PP, I also think it's a little difficult to tighten the harness when I'm putting LO in the seat.  She seems comfortable, but at first I wasn't sure if it was a good fit due to the positioning of the crotch strap and infant insert.  It's installed in the center and was not as easy to install since we couldn't use latch.  Fortunately, I went to car-seat installation and inspection event and had a tech do it!

I recommend checking it out in store to see if it works for you.  Buy Buy Baby carries it.
