So a few cases of fifth's disease is going around my school. I am a teacher who is 30 weeks pregnant. I went for my blood test and it came back I am not immune. The doctor is calling me back tomorrow to see what the next step is. I guess I am nervous that my little girl is at risk these last few weeks, however, I am not in school until I get clearance. Anyone else ever been in this situation? Thanks for your help!!
Re: Fifth's Disease Vent...
I am a dental hygienist and a couple weeks ago had a kid come in coughing all over the place. His mom said he had Fifths Disease (Slap Face) and his doctor told her to not let him around pregnant people! Wonderful. Just so happens I had an appt the next day at my OB. He checked my records and found that I was immune which most people are. But he said if I wasent, he would do blood work in one week to check and go from there.. he seemed pretty concerned until he found out I was immune.
I am sorry about your situation. I remember how irritated and scared I was when I found out that kid had it. I am sure it will all be fine though!!
This happened at our school last year. I shared a student who had Fifth's Disease with my (then) pregnant neighbor. It was kind of scary for the other teacher, but everything ended up okay. The girl stayed out for a few days and then the custodian sanitized the desks everyday for awhile (I don't know if that helps). I am sending positive thoughts your way!
Oh, I had to get tested for FD this year and found out I am immune. I am pretty sure I have that student to thank
