Any game players? ner...

We're doing a game trade for DH's side of the Christmas in lieu of a whole bunch of Christmas gifts (We each buy a game we'd like and then do a dirty santa type exchange).  We're all into fun unusual games like Ticket to Ride or Bohnanza and I'm looking for a similar unusual game - no monopoly etc.

 Any recs for games you've played/liked? :)

Re: Any game players? ner...

  • DH & I are avid game players and we love Settlers of Catan (I think it's spelled with a C).

There's a link.  Love Ticket to Ride, btw.

  • Loading the player...
  • My SIL keeps recommending Carcassone.  We haven't played it yet though.

  • We already have Settlers of Catan, and so does everybody else!  LOL!

Carcassone   - I'm totally going to look into that one.

If you all haven't played Bohnanza, its this silly bean planting/trading game that's German - its totally my fav game.

  • I'll have to try Bohnanza.  :)

  • Yeah, I mean board game or card games.  Sorry, LOL!

    I'm not technological *at all*.  I haven't played a video game since I was 10 I bet.

  • There's another game that we like (DH and his family laughted outrageously when playing it last Xmas).  You have to make up an ending to a foriegn culture's saying, and then other players have to guess from everyone's made up sayings & the real one, which is the correct one.  I forget the name of it, but if you're interested I could page or e-mail it to you later.

    Thanks!

  • Will do - it's a great Christmas idea.  I may have to bring it up at DH's family gathering.  I think they'd enjoy it.

  • Sequence is a great game, as is the Mexican Train Game. Phase 10 is good if you haven't played it. Also an According to Hoyle book might be a good gift since it contains a zillion card games.

That may be my pink puffy heart LOVE game of all time.  Nobody ever wants to play with me though.  They always want to play braniac games :)  Not me, I'm all for brain-less.  hehe

:)  never played mexican train game, gonna look into that.  I think I may get my brother a cool game in addition to our game exchange, so I love these suggestions.

    Cute CD bottom, btw :)

  • Do they like dice games? We were just turned on to Farkle and like to play that one. It is cross between Yatzee and Bunco.

There is also the new Risk that just came out...

  • wavelength is pretty fun as a couples game if some of the people in the exchange are in relationships. each part of the couple writes 5 answers to something like "Actors" or "Countries in Europe". You get points for matching and they don't have to be actually correct, just matching.
