Baby Names

Steven for a baby

My mom said Steven sounds too old for a baby name. Do you think Steven is okay for a baby name?

  • It was in my top three names for DS, but we went with another name because I had dated a Stephen for a while before DH, and it just seemed weird.

All adult Stevens/Stephens were once babies!

This.  They didn't pop out as 40-year-old men with ties and briefcases.

  • I love the name Steven! It's a good, strong name and not one of these girly little boy names. I especially like it with the V and not the PH.
  • It doesn't sound like a baby name, but like others have said- they won't be a baby forever! :)

  • Some people get too caught up in naming a baby/child and forget they are also naming a young professional, a middle-aged man, and a grandfather. Steven will suit him nicely throughout his life.

  • I don't particularly care for the name, but I agree he will grow into the name.

  • Personally, I'm completely biased, but I think that Steven is great. DH is a Steven, but goes by Steve.  Do what you think is right, not your Mom.  It is your baby, yes it's her grandchild, but it's your right to name LO what you want.

  • He will only be a baby for a small portion of his life, I think it's much more important if the name sounds good on a full grown man. Which it does.

  • Sure, although I prefer the spelling Stephen. Steven seems a little 70s to me and Stephen more classic.
