Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Meal ideas please....

My 10 month old went from not wanting anything to do with baby food to wanting to feed herself and refusing any type of baby puree. My brain is stumped with ideas on what to feed her. I do eggs, bread and butter, yogurt melts, cheerios. I feel like it is a little mundane. Any ideas?

  • I buy a bunch of organic chicken, bake it and cube it up for the week.  I give her an ounce each night and have it already separated out in little baggies.  I buy bags of organic frozen veggies (green beans and broccoli) and give that to her with butter.  I also make a large batch of mashed potaotes which I have to feed to her.  I will give her steamed cubes of sweet potato, black beans, pinto beans, bread, cheese, fruit, cooked sliced carrots, butternut squash....  She will eat anything I give her except the green veggies.  That requires butter and some coaxing.  Good luck!

  • He eats pretty much everything we do.  I just watch what I am cooking to make sure I am not making it spicy or with too much salt.

  • I have not done this yet, but a friend of mine did this:

Make a bunch of whole wheat spaghetti (or you could do wagon wheels)

    Add spaghetti sauce

Add frozen vegies (like diced carrots or peas)

She made a big pot of it and then put it into zip locks in ice cube tray sized portions. When she needed a meal she just pulled a couple out and reheated them.

Disclaimer: I have never done this and I don't know who long it keeps, etc!

  • DS has toast sticks with honey or jam, blueberries, cut up cheese, peas and carrots, steamed veggies like broccoli, soup broths, sweet potato fries (homemade), just about anything soft and bite sized

  • I buy tortellini and ravioli...he LOVES it. I made a butternut squash sauce to go on top that went over well with everyone. We feed him everything we eat, but he was getting tired of the same old chicken and veggies (I don't blame him, we eat it all the time and I'm done with it too).  What about hummus and pita, ritz crackers are a hit.  My LO isn't a big fan of meat right now, but loves beans, (also potatoes) I mash them a little bit and load a spoon for him to use. Maybe flavor some things you make regularly different.  We also bought the new green giant flavored frozen brocooli, and he loves that. We use Mrs. Dash a lot to limit salt intake, and he likes that. Good luck! .

  • I would agree with everyone that we typically give our boys everything we eat. Some of the finger foods they love are, avacado, peas, ground chicken/turkey, grilled cheese, brocolli, tiny pasta with butter and cheese, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, and cheese. I try to make it as easy as possible for myself and will prepare some food for the week for them to eat if what my husband and I are eating might be too spicy.

  • Ever since he was 6 months old, my son has eaten whatever my husband and I eat.  I would recommend it because it makes life a million times easier.

Tonight, my son had bbq chicken.  He had a 1 full drumstick and a couple bites.  Plus a piece of bread.  For lunch today he didn't eat much of his spinach pizza (tomato sauce, cheese, fresh tomatoes and spinach), but he ate all of his pesto pasta.
