Cleansing Recipes!

Hi ladies!

After having my baby my husband and I decided it would be best for me to be a stay at home mom (yay!)  We are cutting it pretty close on bills, so I am looking for ways to save money on day to day expenses and decided I will start making my own cleaning products.  Here's what I'm looking for:

1)  An all-purpose cleaner recipe

2)  A recipe for a cleaner that can disinfect as well (I'm a freak about kitchen counters and the bathroom ... normally I use cleaners with bleach, but again I'm looking for things I can make!)

3)  Is there a recipe for a toilet cleaner?

 4)  A dishwasher detergent recipe ... do these even work very good?  (This is another one I'm a tad concerned about)

Any help/advice would be MUCH appreciated!  Thank you!

Re: Cleansing Recipes!

  • I have been making a lot of my own cleaners for a while.  You can do most of your cleaning with baking soda, vinegar, washing soda, castile soap and essential oils.  The essential oils and castile soap can be pricey up front, but you use so little of them that they last forever.  My recipes are:

All-purpose cleaner - 3 Tbs vinegar, 1/2 tsp washing soda, 1/2 tsp castile soap, 2 cups hot water.  It will bubble when combined but then settle down and works great!  I use Lavender castile soap and it smells great too!

Anti-Bacterial Spray - 1 cup water, 20 drops lavender essential oil.

Grease cutter - 2 cups water, 1/4 cup castile soap, 10 drops lavender essential oil.

For toilets, sinks and the bathtub, I use baking soda.  It's mildly abrasive and works great!  Castile soap is a wonderful soap scum remover.

I have not made my own dishwasher detergent recipe yet, but I'm know other ladies have.  Hopefully someone will help you out.

  • I use mostly 1:1 vinegar and water solution with a few drops of an antibacterial EO. Baking soda is our other go to for things that need a more abrasive cleaner (bathroom surfaces) sprinkle the baking soda, spray w/ the vinegar and add elbow grease!

I think www.theecofriendlyfamily.com has a dish washer detergent. I also use their cloth diaper safe laundry detergent for our everyday laundry.
