DD is loud!

My daughter is 5 years old.  She's healthy and happy....and LOUD!  Had her hearing tested; she's fine there.  When she gets excited, in a good way or bad, she's loud.  Example: "We're going to Disney World!"  DD: YAY!  I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!  or "It's time to leave the park now."  DD: (cries loudly) NOOOOO!!!! 5 MORE MINUTES, PLEASE?!

We've taught her the difference between inside voice and outside voice.  She's a smart kid; I don't think forgetting is what's happening.  It's more like she's so excited and ramped up, she's loud.  Any tips on how to get her to quiet down?

Re: DD is loud!

  • I could have written this exact post. My 5 year old DD is SOOO loud inside and outside. I've been taking examples from her teacher's and using the same techniques that they have used. my favorite is putting my hand up and touching my ring finger and my middle finger to my thumb, while my pointer and pinkie are up in the air. I call it "the wolf". When I do the wolf, my DD knows she needs to lower her voice or stop talking all together. Then we can have a quiet coversation and explain again about inside/outside voice, how its ok to get excited but lets try to get quiet excited by "whisper yelling". Dont get me wrong, she is still really loud, but it redirects her attention at the time and gives me a moment to where I can talk to her in a not so loud manner. Good Luck!
