My husband and I have been ttc for 12 months now. Husband had blood work done by family doctor at 10 months and was diagnosed with low testosterone. Level was at 218. Doc prescribed androgel and gave husband a testosterone injection to get him started. After further research we decided not to fill the prescription for the androgel as everywhere we read stated that it would kill all sperm. After reading this we decided to see a Urologist and get a second opinion. Urologist ordered a semen analysis and we had the appointment today. He told us that my husband had 0 sperm present in his semen and that there is no chance for him to father children. He said we could visit a Big university hospital, a male infertility specialist, and that they could do a testicular biopsy to give us "piece of mind" He seemed very confident that there is no hope. I on the other hand still am hopeful. I know we will have children one way or another. I just don't exactly know all of our options and am looking for some insight If anyone has a similar story.
It sounds like this first urologist doesn't specializes in infertility? Don't waste your time with him. There are definitely still plenty of options out there. DH was diagnosed with azoo back in January when his first SA came back with 0 too. MFI is an excruciatingly long, slow, process with lots of waiting, but there are options. What area of the country are you guys in?

We're in Indiana. We'd like to search for a male infertility specialist in our area for a secon opinion. We're just worried about the extra expense this is going to cost. Seems like anything to do with infertility isn't covered under our insurance. Also, Thank you for the encouragement and hope in our situation. ;
I do not have any experience with MFI, but I just wanted to say I am very sorry for the news the urologist gave you and what you are going through. I definitely think you should seek a second opinion and I wish you luck on your journey.
Me: 31 DH: 42 w/ perfect superhuman SA TTC since 01/2011, all tests normal
09/2012: BFP! Beta #1: 117 Beta #2 165 Beta #3 253 Beta #4 3273 Beta #5 19,808 EDD: June 3 2013, u/s at 6w1d, saw one beautiful heartbeat, a strong 172 bpm! Can't wait to meet our baby blob!
06/14/2013: Our beautiful bunny boy born nearly two weeks late!
It's worth the extra expense of someone who knows what they're doing. Maybe there's a blockage that could be repaired, or maybe the right concoction of hormones could help. If he's producing any sperm they can also extract a sample that can be used for IVF later. Try getting someone from your insurance on the line and get as much info as you can ahead of time. You guys still have as much a shot as anybody. It's going to take longer, and happen a little differently, but that doesn't mean it won't. And you're in good company here. Feel free to pm me for any mfi questions/vents.

Don't give up!!!clearly, the first guy either didn't understand that you were TTC or he missed that lesson in med school! The testosterone shot killed your hubby's sperm count!!! I get so mad when I hear urologists doing this to people! It can take months for it to wash out of his system, so you may just be on hold for a while but not likely out of the game. Find a uro that does MFI. They can get him on cloud or hcg or Lupron and any one of those can raise his testosterone levels AND get his sperm counts back. Patience, patience, patience now is my best advice. Give it a month or two and recheck the SA. I bet there will be sperm! In the meantime, you can look into MRC supplements (fertility_nutrition.com) as a natural supplement to improve sperm health. Most importantly, DO NOT let anyone else come near your husband with any kind of testosterone supplements ever again!!
Married 2007 3 Clomid IUIs -- BFNs IVF #1 never made it to transfer On "egg health" cocktail DHEA/CoQ10/FRC/Pregnitude/Melatonin Starting IVF #2 for Feb 2013 Follistim/Menopur/Ganirelix Cancelled mid-cycle due to high P4 levels early on. OCPs again for IVF 2.5 mid-March. IVF 2.5 transferred two "gorgeous" 5-day blasts and BFFN. Even REI is baffled On indefinite hold until a huge stroke of serendipity led me to IVF 3 May 2014
Testing found positive cardiolipins/APS, now on lovenox and intralipid infusions
Transfer of 2 5-day blasts and (FINALLY) BFFP!!
1st ultrasound shows two sacs and two HB, but one is sluggish, almost expecting vanishing twin
Subsequent ultrasound confirmed vanishing twin, but my other Little critter looks fantastic!

We have an amazing Andrologist/embryologist. I would saylook for some Andrologist recommendations in your area.
We have some uncommon MFI issues on our own, and having our Andrologist be so supportive, understanding, and coming so highly recommended has been such a comfort in this process.

We have decide we are for sure going to get a second opinion. I have been reassured by this community that there is still hope for us to have children. It may be a little different than others and a little bit more expensive, but the blessing of our own baby will be sooo worth it! Thank you so much for your encouraging words : )
