Hello Everyone...I don't post very much, but I am really looking for some advice here. My 2 1/2 year old is potty training and has not pooped in a week. Last week she pooped twice on the potty (the last one was so big I needed the plunger). Since then nothing. After two days without a poop I went to my normal fix (prunes). But it didn't get things going. She also had a runny nose and was not drinking enough water, so I know that it must have made the poop a little harder than normal. I continued to give her prunes daily along with other high fiber foods, while cutting back on the bananas and other stuffy foods. This morning I called her doctor and she told me to give her Miralax.
My daughter is very healthy otherwise ( we have only been in for 1 sick visit in 2 1/2 years) and I rarely have even given her tylenol. I am wondering if any of you have done this and how it has worked.
Thanks!!!!
Re: Constipated 2 1/2 year old.....HELP
My biggest success has been with books. We would put DS on the potty to poop, read Everyone Poops or Even Firefighters go to the Potty, and then walk away and tell him to let us know when he was finished. He could read more on his own if he wanted, but we told him he couldn't get up til he went. It was like a miracle and I think it really took away from the nervousness of the whole task.
I do miralax daily for my dd, she gets 1/2 a teaspoon in her water, it seems to help keep things moving.
But last week that wasn't enough, so I did a ton of prunes and pears in the same day, and extra miralax. Along with that I have prune juice in the house now, for added emergencies.
But, all in all, the daily miralax is the key! Good luck.
we have dealt with constipation since infancy- our daugher recently turned 2. If she doesnt go by day 3 we give her a supposity- that works instantly- of course recommended by our doctor. But we havent had to use them very often because I make sure her diet has the following daily/wkly
outmeal- our doc said it helps
dried prunes, crasins, pear juice with water, pears
spinach- supposedly a poop magnet and it really works! In fact we put spinach in her quesadala the other night and she pooped 2xs the next day- she usually only poops 1x daily.
and fig newton thins- thats the only cookie she eats and she loves them
Thanks Ladies!!!
We finally had a poop!!!!!!
