Hi all, my LO will be 8 months soon (Nov 9). He has a very mild case of Eczema. Anyway, I started solids a few weeks back well actually about a month ago now. He loves bananas, doesn't seem to mind veggies, but hates meat (we are going to try this again in a few weeks). Lately though, I have noticed that when he eats carrots his Eczema gets more prominent and the area around his mouth gets a little red. Could this be an allergy? The rest of our family have no allergies to any foods. I have never heard of a carrot allergy before...please help I am uncertain.
Re: How do you know when there is an allergy developing?
I can't speak for babies but I also have eczema and have that exact same reaction around my mouth when I eat any orange or red food. It gets red and burns a bit. Since I'm unwilling to give up foods I love, I just make sure I have Aquaphor handy and get it on my mouth immediately after I eat and that really helps it from escalating. Tomatoes are the worst for me-- my mouth starts really burning afterward. I'd mention it to your pedi and see if he suggests dropping that food and coming back to it later, maybe? I developed my allergy later in life so I don't know how it works when you have it at an early age.
