BF question...

I have a 3 week old DD, and i'vebern exclusively BF. I was having nipple pain related to Reynaud's, which seems to be under control with medication. I'm nearly pain free on the right side, however the left side is another story. It had been cracked, but seems to have healed now. I'm having pain when she is eating, but it doesn't go away when she is done. I have nipple and breast pain almost constantly on the left side. Any thoughts? I'm almost at wits end, but don't want to give up on breastfeeding!

Re: BF question...

  • I would call your OBthat is definitely not normal. It sounds a little bit like thrush but I don't know. Have you tried hydrogel pads?

  • Thrush crossed my mind too especially since she was gassy/fussy last night. I took your advice and called the midwife they can get me in Friday morning. Guess it's just a matter of surviving until then.

  • Might try pumping/giving bottle if the pain is that bad.  I alternated between boob and bottle of bm when I was at my worst pain.

  • I had the same problem on my left side as well.  The pain was so bad that I wanted to quit.  My friend told me to try a nipple shield which made it a little more bareable, but the baby didn't like sucking on it.  I just dealt with the pain for another week and it eventually went away at 4 weeks. I wore a bathing suit top in the shower and that helped too.  Also, put the lanolin on after feedings. Good luck and don't give up yet, because things get a lot easier.
