Long-time lurker with my first question!!
My baby is 5 weeks old and for the past 3 days she hasn't been acting normally (if babies can act normally!). Before she never cried unless she was hungry. Now she starts bawling while eating (she mostly gets breast milk but sometimes we supplement). Sometimes she eats perfectly well and other times she unlatches countless times to cry. She freaks out when we try to give her a bottle but she'll still suck it down. Here's some other things she does
-she has been eating quite a lot lately but she eats normally at night and sleeps well at night aside from grunting and arching her back in the morning sometimes
-she has always hiccuped a lot
-for the past couple of days sometimes she gets screamy even when she's not eating
-she farts a lot. I've done the colic massage on her a lot and it usually gets some gas out
-she rarely spits up but experienced a lot more spit-up the other day and the day before but not today
Could this be a growth spurt?? Silent reflux? Any help would be appreciated!
We did talk to a nurse about this and she said the baby's probably experiencing pain from the food going in her tummy but couldn't offer any real solutions or ideas.
Re: What could be the issue here?
The baby's digestive system is still maturing - they cannot digest food easily yet and have a hard time breaking it down. It's where the gassy, fussy, screaming babies are coming from.
You can do your best to help her out until her system catches up but nothing will "cure" it yet. Just time & patience.

I might have ovesupply because I keep on leaking but it started with an undersupply (which is why I had to supplement). I took fenugreek to increase and it's working MUCH better. But because she does the same thing with a bottle I think I can rule out a fast let-down.
Thanks for all the ideas! I really hope it's a wonder week!
