Has anyone read any good books on raising girls that they would like to share? I bought "Bringing Up Girls" by James Dobson today but was really wanting to read anything that I can. Thanks!
Also, would anyone who is currently raising a daughter(s) share with me your best advice? I feel so much more nervous about raising a girl than a boy and I know that is kind of silly but I feel like there is so much I am not prepared for!
Re: books on raising girls recommendations
"Cinderella Ate My Daughter" was excellent.

You should have seen MIL's face last night when I told her if it's a girl, I don't want any American Doll crap. You would have thought I told her we'd be serving the placenta for Christmas dinner. If this LO is a girl, MIL is going to be a struggle with all the stupid crap she will buy.

I guess we probably think alot alike when it comes to what i call "pinkifying" girls. (I know, not a real word) When I walk into a store it still amazes me that that the girls section is a sea of pink! My husband and I went out and bought our first girl outfits. In my hand were colors like lime, navy and orange. DH picked out four of the frilliest pink dresses i have ever seen! I don't mind girlie stuff here and there but I can see that this little girl is going to be super girlie if her dad has anything to do with it!

It's just freaking crazy, isn't it!!! I know kids will have their own personalities and their own interests. If she's a girly girl, so be it, and if she wants a doll, it is what it is. I would just encourage a doll that isn't going to stifle her imagination, like the American Dolls with their set story lines and their ridiculously over-priced accessories. I just don't want to raise a little Consumer, or stifle her creativity, or push her to behave in a certain way.
Keep in mind, I won't know what we're having till Sunday, so this could be completely moot for me.
And also off-topic, the author of "Cinderella Ate My Daughter", Peggy Orenstein, also had a book called "Waiting for Daisy" about her struggles with infertility and pregnancy loss that I liked. I got it last year when we were starting to question if we were having fertility issues, then read it again in May after the m/c. She was in Japan when she had one of her losses, and it was interesting to read about how she was encouraged to pay tribute to her angel baby, instead of the "just buck it up" attitude we tend to get here.
