Which one are you using?

and I hate them!! That cup is sitting in front of me at this very moment will milk coming out of the top. I read somewhere where stacie said that may mean the lid is on too tight, so I loosen it, and then it leaks out the sides. Am I missing something??

no. all my sippy cups with staws leak. In fact, the only sippy cups i have that don't leak badly are the take and toss regular ones.

I know they're supposed to be drinking from the straw ones right now, but may I ask why? It seems to me that the regular sippy tops would be more beneficial in teaching them how to drink out of an uncovered cup.

Those are what we use too, I really like them. As long as it's not on it's side, I haven't had any leak issues. When I fill it and put the straw/top on, I make sure the straw is out (not in the cover), and I haven't had any issues with it randomly spouting out milk.

I have no intention of giving him an uncovered cup anytime soon, so I'm fine with him and a straw.

We use a similar type of straw cup. The problem (?) is that to keep them from leaking, they don't have a vent. When you put cold milk or water in them, as it warms up it builds up pressure and pushes the liquid out the straw. I assume it would be a problem with any straw cup.

thanks for the info. Q will drink from a regular cup but is more likely to spill a ton while he's at it or just open his mouth and let it spill all out. I knew pacifiers could lead to dental issues, didn't know the same with bottle and cups.

I have this one, but it leaks as well. It's so annoying. I won't put milk in this because it's like a milk volcano when I do. I've tried tightening the lid, loosening the lid, taking the lid off and readjust the straw...everything.

This is how we started too - he wouldn't drink out of a sippy. It's definitely easier.

Unless you're at Dollar Tree - they don't have straw cups in their baby stuff, only sippies. I found that very odd.

DS drinks his milk & water from a sippy cup (Born Free) and his pedi said that's fine. I didn't know that we should switch to a straw cup now. I will introduce a straw cup sometime around 15 months but one of those websites suggested that prolonged sippy cup usage leads to speech problems? Ughh..As if I don't have enough to worry about already.

My cousins son is 4 and still drinks his milk out of a bottle. I wonder if he will have teeth problem or speech problem. And he never used a sippy cup at all. No point to this, really, just ranting.

And you sound like me! I actually went out and bought 2 new packages sippy cups (ones like the toss ones) and then came home filled it with milk and gave it to T. Later on, I sit down to catch up tb and saw stacie's link. Sh!t. I am now going to return the other package I bought.

We have the nuby and munchkin sippies. They all leak. She throws them off her high chair and the nipple will actually come out of the plastic top and milk will get everywhere. I am purchasing camelbak sippy cups in hopes that they are more resilient.

This is what I did. But honestly, I did it because I was curious, not because I knew straw cup were better for them... ::shame face::

And camelbak you say? I will be looking those up!

With the camelbak ones, do they have to bite the mouth piece to get the drink out? I had camelbak bottles, and they had bite valves. Just wondering if the kids ones are also bite valves.
Also, just an FYI about the bite valves - my mom's dentist told her that her camelbak water bottle with that bite valve was part of the cause of her TMJ and recommended that she not use it. not sure how common that is, but just figured I'd pass it on.

I love Camelbak and I am buying one for DS as well. I thought you might like this design.

I went to direct to a straw too but like some here I didn't know that was what he need it. Even though he never liked the sippy cup and I posted that here. I found out he liked the straw with a cup I got from a birthday that comes with it. When I saw that he loved it I rememberd that one of you Mamas recommended one from Platex

I love it!!! I mean is not perfect. It leaks if is on it side and Matt has throw it so many times that it leaks a little more hehe but I love that I can hide the straw when he doesn't want anymore. I don't mind the leaking because he drinks water from it or juice. I still give him his milk in his bottle because he prefers it like that.

I have yet to find a straw sippy I don't hate. We tried several and they all either leaked horribly, had straws that would separate randomly from the top making it impossible to drink, or were impossible to clean. So both girls use regular sippies for milk and open cups or these bottles for water:

Nuby straw cup. I don't have a link but it is less than $7 for 2 at Target. They only leak if Max drops them and the little spout thing at the top pops up. I just pop it back in and we are good to go! He only drinks water out of his straw cup. He has another cup for Milk.
