If your LO has a hemangioma, has your pedi expressed concern? DD has one on the top of her head. The pedi we've seen the most was not concerned, but at DD's one-year appointment her regular pedi couldn't see her, so we were seen by someone different. She expressed concern and recommended we take her to a dermatologist. I was surprised because I trust my regular pedi, but if this other one thinks it is necessary to get it checked out we will. I'm just curious what others have been told about it. TIA.
Re: Hemangiomas
LBB has the giant one on his forehead. It stopped growing around 6 months, so our doctor was pretty sure it would start going in and then be gone by 1 year, but it's still around. It is flatter, and starting to grey, which is apparently the sign that it's starting to involute, so now he's shooting for gone by 2.
But if it's not gone, he says that unless it's on the eye or mouth (impairing vision or eating) they don't tend to do anything for hemangiomas until the kids are 5/6/7 - when the procedure is a lot less invasive.
DD's stopped growing around the same time as LBB. DH thinks it's getting flatter but I don't know. I have my yearly mole check coming up in November so I will probably have my dermatologist look at it while I'm there.
