What is your stance on TVs in the bedroom?

I heard a few of you say that you don't believe in having TVs in your bedrooms and I am curious now...

We didn't have a TV in our bedroom at our last house and for some reason we have one at this house. DH rarely watches TV in the bedroom, it's all me. After I am done for the evening I crawl in bed for some downtime TV before I fall asleep.

I could certainly see how a TV in the bedroom could put a damper on your sex life, so I get that part of it.

Re: What is your stance on TVs in the bedroom?

  • We don't have one or want one in the bedroom. DH had one in his apartment when we started dating and he would fall asleep with it on and I could never sleep. So when we moved in together we just agreed not to have one in the bedroom again.

  • We have one in our bedroom and usually watch Chelsea Lately in bed every night.

  • If we had a TV in the bedroom, I can guarantee we would stay up way later than we do (which is already too late).

  • No TV in our bedroom.  IMO your bedroom is for 2 things 'gettin busy' and sleeping.  There is no need for other distractions in the bedroom.

Having said that I've ALWAYS had a TV in my bedroom since I was in middle school.  Before DH and I met I would consistently fall asleep to the TV, but when I moved in with him, there was no TV in the bedroom.  It never bothered me and now I prefer not having one in there.

  • We have one in the bedroom. I use it for all of my history channels. I'm the only one who watches it. I will say it has not had an impact on our sex life. It's only a problem if you allow it to be. We are tv junkies and I do not feel ashamed of it. If it's wrong than I don't want to be right.
  • We don't have one and never have.  I wouldn't say I'm anti tv in the bedroom.  We just don't watch much tv at all.

  • We don't have one in the bedroom and I don't want one. Here is why:

I feel the bedroom is reserved for romance and sexual fun. If the tv is in there, that is a distraction. Not only that-- but if we did have a tv in there, I know for a fact DH would want to watch it while I sleep, and I can't sleep with a tv on. I just like my bedroom to be only for romantic fun or sleep.

  • I've mentioned before that DH is a TV junkie.  If we had a TV in the bedroom, he'd be turning it on the second he wakes up.  I can't stand the noise the first thing in the morning, it makes me so irritable.  I also usually go to bed before him, so TV down in the living room insteameans we're not arguing about him turning it off when I'm ready for bed.

Also, DH used to be the person that always had to have a TV on while he slept. I, on the other hand, absolutely cannot sleep with TV on.  It was actually a huge problem for us when we were younger, as he was spending so much time sleeping on the couch in front of the TV.  I don't remember how I changed his mind - maybe he was just sick of me being so tired and cranky from not sleeping - but he gave in.  In this house, we've never had a TV in the bedroom, and I'm happy to keep it that way.  It seems like a silly thing, but overall, we just get along better and fight less with no TV in the bedroom!

  • We have one! We basically only use it of we have guests and we want to retreat to our room for some downtime. Now sometimes LO comes in on the weekends and we put on cartoons. Most days and nights we don't turn it on but it's nice to have the option but if it was on all the time it would bug me!!

  • I'm super anti tv in the bedroom DH is always asking if we can have one. This is why I'm against it.

If there was a tv in our bedroom H would want to stay up late and watch it. I can't sleep with a tv on. We would have less fancy business, for sure. When he is at work overnight I would probably stay up and watch it way too late. I do that anyway and the tv is far from our room. I give the boys a one hour tv limit and I don't want them, mostly Liam, to think that it's ok to watch tv all the time.

We don't have one right now, but I have really been wanting a 2nd tv.  Sometimes I get so irritated at the crap DH watches that I'd really like to escape to another room and watch something ridiculous and mindless like Honey Boo Boo.  He always watches God shows, war shows, basically anything on Discovery, NatGeo, or the History Channel.

This HAS to be a pretty common man thing to do.  He also loves the Science Channel and the Military Channel.

And, my mindless TV is more like Gossip Girl or catching up on Rules of Engagement.

There's no TV in our room.  There won't be a TV in our room in the foreseeable future.  At this point, there's no need for it.  Neither of us want one in there.

Maybe I'm the guy in our relationship, because History, NatGeo and Discovery are some of my favorite channels! LOL

  • We don't have one now, at our last house we did and I think the only reason it was ever turned on was when we watched a movie in bed, like twice. We don't have one now because the room is too small, and we never used it before so there was no reason to have it in there. DH and I usually compromise on what we watch on TV and he doesn't like for me to go watch something without him which means we often get to watch what I want!. I don't think having one in the bedroom would affect our sex life, because you have to HAVE sex to have a sex life right? Lol

  • We don't have one and I would be totally fine if we didn't have one. DH wants one but hasn't mentioned it since we've moved into our new house so I think we'll just go without. But we also don't have a microwave and i'm totally fine with it..

I'm with ya!  We have a TV in our bedroom and its obnoxiously large and i love it!!! We dont fall asleep with it on, or anything (although i used to when i was single) but its just nice to be able to cuddle up in bed and watch some Law & Order lol!! And I never really understood the whole  "TV causes problems with your sex life" thing. I mean, if you want to have sex, have sex.... watching TV isnt going to interfere with that. not for us anyway lol
