Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Crying Baby

My baby crys for 3-6 hours starting at 6pm. She will cry/scream non-stop the whole time. She isn't hungry(I try feeding her every 2 hours), has a clean diaper, and just recently had a bm. What else can it be? This has been going on for about a week now. I just found out she has a hernia, but my Dr said it should fix itself. It doesn't seem to bother her, and I'm doing everything my Dr said to do for it too. Please Please Please help. I'm at my wits end and can't stand her screaming anymore. I feel like a bad mom because I don't know what to do...

  • How much sleep is LO getting?  Have you tried gas drops or gripe water?

  • Sounds like maybe the period of purple crying or colic. www.purplecrying.info Hang in there. It will get better.

  • FYI if you LO's hernia is an umbilical hernia, my DS has one and we just came back from a specialist today and he said they are not painful, there are no nerve endings in the small intestine which is what usually sticks out in those.

Sounds to me like your LO just has a fussy period the same time each day. Some babies have that. My MIL said DH had that from 1 to 2am every night.
  • Try gripe water.  It always calms my LO down right away when he's inconsolable like that.

  • My LO was like this aobut a month ago for a couple of weeks.....I used to put her in the car seat and just start driving.  Uusally for about 20 minutes.  She would always cry as I put her in the seat and into the car and sometime in the car for the first part of our journey...but in the end, it would always calm her down.....

Also when I say about 20 minutes that is an average.  There were some nights when I drove for almost an hour.  On those nights I would find a drive through and get myself some coffee and try not to cry because I didnt knwo what else to do.

I feel for you, I also told myself that it will end - this cant last forever...even though it felt like it would.

I also found that walking worked too....I dont know what the weather is like where you are at 6pm but that worked for me in the mornings and afternoons

  • We were having issues as well. I read the Baby Whisperer book and was able to stop the fussiness. My LO was over tired. Also, I quit dairy and it made a huge difference.
    I make cute babies.
