Re: more eating questions

  • O likes to have a fork, she tried to stab food with it but usually doesn't get anything, so she will eat with her hands still.

She really just likes to hold the little plastic baby fork since I have one also. I bought a box of 10(?) at Walmart for a dollar.

Since she still eats with her hands the only food that gets on the floor is stuff she throws at the dog.

  • is LO feeding his/herself with a spoon?  Not really.  We are working on it.  I try to give him a fork or spoon with most meals and let him play and learn.

How much of their meal ends up on their lap or the floor?  Not much.  Maybe 4 bites worth.  Unless he gets mad then he throws his food on the floor.

How much ends up on face/hair? Not a lot.  Depends on what we are eating and his mood.  If he is tired and cranky we get more on his face and hair because he rubs his eyes and head.

  • I load the spoon and then she does the rest. She's gotten pretty good at it here lately.

Not as much ends up on the floor as before. When she's done though she does the windshield wiper on her tray.

She inexplicably likes to play with her hair while she eats so whatever is on her hand ends up in her hair.

  • Lo is still eating everything with her hands.  I am trying to introduce the spoon with yogurt but she just wants to stick her hands in the bowl.

Lo is a good eater but alot of pasta and noodles tend to end up on ehr lap.  Not much on the floor unless shes just not interested in eating and would rather play.

  • Q has kinda tried for a while but this week it is really clicking. He still doesn't really get the whole scooping thing, he likes the plastic fork a little better so we load up the spoon or fork and let him grab it and put it in his mouth himself.

Half his meal ends up on his lap. when eating with his hands, he grabs whole handfuls and tries to shove the whole thing in his mouth. The result is alot of it goes down. I try to avoid this by spreading his food out on his try but it only works so well.

Fortunately, he is not a purposefully messy eater so hes not putting it everywhere but half way through a meal he starts rubbing his eyes with his messy hands so, eh.

  • I think Matt gets what the spoon is for but still doesn't do it. I have let him with his food so that he can feeds himself. He does one or two bites then he gets cranky, grunting I have a little caveman hahahqha and screaming cuz he wants me to feed him. When I don't do it then the food ends up in the floor... most of it. The only thing he eats by himself with no problem are the crakers I give him.

  • He likes to play with the fork, and sometimes insists on feeding himself with the spoon.

I'd say probably 15-20% goes on his lap or to the dog.

He only does the face/hair thing when he's tired and completely done eating.

  • Not really, he's interested and gets that the spoon goes in the bowl, but he just waves it around in there with a big grin on his face. It almost never makes it to his mouth.

He usually ends up with a lot on his lap, and we also get the windshield wiper on the tray when he's done.

Not much gets in his hair anymore unless he's really sleepy, but his face is usually a mess (see e.g. my siggy pic :)

  • We don't do the spoon or fork yet. He hasn't shown any interest and he loves when we feed him (oatmeal, applesauce, purees).

He is not a messy eater. I figure it's because he's so motivated, he doesn't want any of the food to NOT go into his mouth Big Smile

Maybe one or two bites a day I find in his seat or on the floor! Whatta guy!!

  • is LO feeding his/herself with a spoon? No, we haven't even tried yet. Sometimes I give her a spoon or fork to play with while I feed her, but she mostly just chews on the handle.

How much of their meal ends up on their lap or the floor? It depends on the meal. I'd say she probably drops less than 1/4 of what she's given.

How much ends up on face/hair? That also depends. She loves to play with her hair now, so recently I've been running a wash cloth through her hair after meals.

No we haven't even tried yet

How much of their meal ends up on their lap or the floor?

It depends on what it is.  If its something she really likes, not much at all.  If its something she doesn't care for, then maybe, half?

How much ends up on face/hair?

Not much at all, generally it's just if she rubs her face or hair after taking a bite, which she does do, but its just mess, not actual food....if that makes sense.

  • Is LO feeding his/herself with a spoon? Not really a spoon quite yet. But she likes using a fork. She has a hard time stabbing the food so I normally do that part and hand her the fork and she feeds herself then.

How much of their meal ends up on their lap or the floor? Honestly I think a lot ends up on the floor. She is so picky and if she doesn't like it or doesn't want it she will take it out of he mouth and throws it on the floor. It drives me nuts.

How much ends up on face/hair? Hardly any.

  • No spoon yet. He usually just plays with it.

Not much food ends up on the floor anymore. He is an eating machine! If it does my dog takes care of it. Max likes to feed him at the end, doesn't bother me lol.

Depends on what he is eating. He makes the biggest mess on his lap because he shoves too much food in his face and it falls down. Silly boy!
