Breast Pumps

I am considering getting either a manual or a single eletric breast pump for the first few weeks until either I figure out with insurance how to get one for free, or I buy one myself. I figure I may need this in DH and I want to go out without LO and my double eletric pump hasnt come in. Any ST+M have a recommendation over single eletric or manual?

Re: Breast Pumps

  • No recommendations but I'm considering renting an electric one until I can get one for free or mostly covered from my insurance. My insurance doesn't renew till 1/1/13 so I can't find out what my coverage will be till after that and if baby comes early I'll need some kind of pump to keep me going for a few weeks.

  • I have a Medela single and a Ameda double and love both.  If you want to save money though in case you have to buy a double pump yourself, I would just buy a manual one.  Even electric single pumps can get expensive.

  • I did not like the manual pump I had, it just does not do the job. Why go buy a single/manual pump to then go buy an eletric pump? I would check with your hospital about renting a pump so you can see what you want to do about purchasing your own.

  • I used a Medela Harmony (manual) when I was on vacation and couldn't bring my hospital grade pump. It was awesome! I got a good amount of milk and for short term occasional use, it doesn't tire out your hand. I think you can get it for $30 on Amazon.
