Trying to Get Pregnant

Question about successful temping

I am sorry that my first post is a question and a long one. I have been lurking on the boards for about a month now. And I am still on BCP until after my preconception appointment with my doctor on Dec 15th.

I am considering temping when I do finally stop BCP to help understand what my body is doing.

 My only problem is that I really don't have a set time for a decent temp. My DH works 4 days a week, he gets up at 4am and always wakes me up before he leave. After he leaves I often have a nearly impossible time falling back asleep and get back up at 7am. I know I could temp at 4 but the other three days he doesn't work I almost always sleep straight until 7.

Does anyone know if it will be possible to successfully temp or have any ideas on what I should do?

  • From the info I've read, you should temp at 4 if that's when you wake up.  Then, set your alarm for 4 the remaining three days.  Consistency is key.  Although, I'm a horrible example because I haven't temped in days.  I got really sick of it, and I'm going to try to be better next cycle.

  • The girls are right, you have to temp at the same time every day to get a clear temp shift.  But during the 2 WW and even while you are on your period, its not as important to temp.  I didnt always temp during these times and still got to know my cycles.  Just something to consider.

  • as much as it sucks, you have to set your alarm and temp at the same time every day.  hopefully soon it will become habit and just part of your routine!

  • temp at 4 am every day, don't temp if you are still on BCP. If you are TTC get off BCP. Good Luck
  • Thanks for all the advice. I'm not going to stop NCP until after my visit with the doctor. That way I will stop at the end of the pack.

    The thought of waking up at 4 even on the days DH wakes me up is really sort of depressing, even if I am a morning person.

  • Honestly?  I set my alarm for 15 minutes before DH's alarm goes off (so my alarm is set for 6) and temp then and then I go back to bed until around 8.  After the first few days it became really easy for me to temp, turn on the light read the temp and jot it down on a pad on my nightstand and then shut everything off and go back to bed.  Sounds weird but it totally works for me.
