anyone have a train table?

I think I've officially made the decision to buy DS a train table for Christmas, because choo-choos are all the rage in the dande household as of late.

If you do have a train table, are the tracks compatible with Thomas? I've read some reviews of tables that say they are compatible, but people have said they really aren't, and that the trains just fall off the tracks. No sense in dropping $150 on a train table if he can't even use the trains he loves.

  • Most train tables don't actually come with tracks, you have to buy those separate.  We have a Melissa & Doug train table and we have circo brand wooden tracks and a combination of trains, including multiple Thomas trains and they all work great.  Some of the Trains that are taller don't fit under the bridge, but that's not a big deal my son lifts the bridge and passes the train through.

  • We have the Imagenarium from TRU-  they are compatible with chuggington, brio, and of course the Imagenarium trains.

We have the take and play Thomas trains.  they are kind of small but my son still puts them on there and is able to move them around ok.

  • We have the KidKraft one with lights and sounds (some of the tracks make sound- police siren, helicopter, steel working, train).  Over the years we have collected Brio, Thomas, Target, Maxium and generic stuff on amazon without any issues.  The "only" issue we ever have is last year my kids got into the Chuggington trains and although they fit on the wooden tracks (they are suppose to go on wood tracks) all our bridges are too short for them to go under.  But its no big deal, when we design our tracks (we generally change it once a month) we give the Chuggington trains the options to not go under tunnels or they just "jump" over the tunnels.

we have this one and it's also compatible with wooden Thomas, but not the plastic.  I love this set- got it on sale for around $100 and it came with tracks, buildings, trains, cars, etc.- you really don't need to buy anything else.  It's a great value.

  • If you are in an area where you have Craigslist, then check there. I was able to find a table with two boxes of trains and tracks for $50. It was a great deal!

  • We got the Imaginarium train table from TRU. It came with everything and (at least) the Thomas wooden trains can be used on that table also.

My boys didn't get as into the train table as I thought it would so we'll be turning it into a lego table probably next year.

  • We have the KidCraft table w/ the rolling trundle storage - they did not come with trains or tracks.
