December 2012 Moms

hubby thinks we need to carry 2 diaper bags

We have a 17 month old son and are expecting a daughter the 26th of Dec my hubby thinks we need to carry 2 diaper bags around with us when we go places i am not sure what to think about that part of thinks it is rediculous the other part kinda understands his thinking what do you think?  TIA for any advice

Re: hubby thinks we need to carry 2 diaper bags

  • If the kids get seperated during day care due to the age difference, or one goes with mom while the other is with dad for the day, it would make sense to have two. Might be able to get around that somewhat by having a changing station of sorts in your trunk with supplies for each and a tote bag so you can grab what you need given the circumstances.

Wonder if there are bags out there that could zip/unzip sort of like the 2 person sleeping bags do. One side per child that way and would only need to grab one bag when going out with both kiddos.

  • I can understand having separate bags for dad and for mom. However, a diaper bag per kid is a little redic. I will have 2 kids come December and am just getting a larger bag. That is it. I still have the "man bag" for DH if he wants to take the kids out (unlikely). For the most part they go out with me. So no, two bags is redic. Just get a larger diaper bag. Plus my DD's stuff only take up a small space. Since she only need a diaper or two, change of clothes, a snack, and sippy to go out. I've been using my normal purse for that for over a year!

  • I'm not planning on carrying 2 diaper bags around regularly, but we do have a spare because DH likes to leave the diaper bag in his car all the time. If both kids are out together you should be able to fit what you need to for both in one bag. If the kids are going separate places you can probably throw one together for the older one pretty quick.

  • If he wants to carry two he can.  I wouldn't though.  For my 18 month old I shove 2 diapers and some wipes in my purse.  I also have a small crayon set and a few cars in there.  Keeps her and the 4 yo happy through almost any situation.  There's no reason you need a whole bag for that.
  • I am going to have 3 little ones and just plan on carrying 1 large bag.  However, I will still have a diaper bag with just stuff for my older DD for when she goes somewhere without the babies.  I have multiple diaper bags that I use for various purposes but I never carry them at the same time.

  • I understand.  I wouldnt  buy a  diaper bag for the price they are at the store though.  Id def. go t a momtomom/resale etc.  Or find a tote that can fit it all.  We almost didn't register for one bc i have so many large bags/totes that the stuff would fit in!

  • Twinneroo makes huge diaper bags, they are designed for parents with twins, but a good friend of mine has two little ones and she raves about this bag.

I have one for myself and one for my fiance, but two bags to carry plus two babys could be a bit overwhelming, I would not want to even try to manage to hold a coffee or cell phone in that situation!

You can find the Twinneroo bags on amazon!

  • No, you definitely don't.  I had a Jujube Be All with my 2u2 and I did just fine.  I would fit 3-4 diapers for each kid, one travel pack of wipes, DS's sippy of water, some sunblock, a snack for him, his epi pen (peanut allergy), some crayons and a car or two to keep him entertained, and those "table toppers" to bring to a restaurant or something.  For DD. I threw in an extra outfit, my nursing cover when I was BFing, or a bottle with water and the formula dispenser when I was FFing, an extra binkie, a burp cloth, and a little mini first aid kit from Target.  At varying times other random things made their way in there, but those were the basics.

Now I upgraded to the Jujube BFF more for the ease of opening since it is not the messenger style.  My older 2 are always handing me things to carry for them and it is easier to have a bag that opens from the top.  I am planning on just putting #3's things in there too - an outfit, diapers, nursing cover.  DS is no longer in diapers, but I do keep extra undies and pants in my bag in case of an accident for him and some potty toppers for using a public restroom (yuck).

When we were each taking a kid, we used to bring one of those wallet changer things (we got the Target version of this one:  https://www.amazon.com/Skip-Hop-Pronto-Changer-Diaper/dp/B000F1SCJK ).  Then DS would go off with DH and that.

ETS:  Skip hop makes a double duo bag for multiples.  DH bought it for me when we had DD, but I never used it - it is huge!!  Check it out:  https://www.amazon.com/Skip-Hop-Double-Deluxe-Black/dp/B000YFRC84/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1351090067&sr=1-1&keywords=skip+hop+double+duo

  • I won't carry two bags around either, but I also do keep one bag in the car.  We always have extra diapers, wipes, clothes, and a toy or two in a bag in the car, because to be honest, I often forget to grab those things on the way out of the house.  We don't keep a bag in H's car because his is a small commuter vehicle and I drive the family car, so we don't ever take his car anywhere as a family.

We have just this it is actually a tackle bass from bass pro shop  and unzips at the half way point into 2 separate bags. I found it and thought gee this would may a great diaper bag with all it's compartments etc. Used it on vacation this summer and fell in love. we split it half with all the time stuff diapers etc. and the other portion with once in a while stuff. When we went to dinner and such just took the diaper half and left the other stuff in the car but then took the whole think when we went to things like the zoo, park etc where we needed like spare clothes, coat (just in case, etc)

This is the one we have.  https://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Extreme-Qualifier-360-Backpacks/product/10204414/
