Baby bargains book vs website

I'm starting to research things early and was going to go ahead and buy a copy of baby bargains. Then I realized you can subscribe to their website for reviews, too. Has anyone done this? Is it beneficial? Or do you find your own personal research to be just, if not more, helpful?

While I'm a FTM, I have nannied a bit and have a few ideas about what types of things I want.

Re: Baby bargains book vs website

  • I cant speak to the website, but the book was very helpful to me. I also utilized amazon reviews as well. Good luck!

  • I find both beneficial.  The book is more in depth about the companies and the products they sell.

  • I did not subscribe to the website, but I bought the book and thought it was great.  I actually carried it with me when I was looking at certain items (e.g., carseats, strollers) so just in case I saw an item I wasn't initially considering, I could see if it was reviewed by Baby Bargains and what they had to say about it.

  • I read the book and did my own research. I found the book useless and would suggest not reading it. The advice you will get from real people using the products is significantly more valuable and less agenda filled.
  • I'm a FTM too and have been overwhelmed by the upcoming purchase decisions we have to make. The book was most helpful for me for understanding the categories/features. But when it came down to picking specific products, nothing compared to handling the items in the store and asking the (surprisingly knowledgeable) store staff for guidance. I then went back to the book to double check any of their reported issues with the products I liked best before making final decisions.

  • I would HIGHLY recommend the book. I bought it on my Nook, so I had it with me at all times. It was most useful for furniture, car seats, and strollers. I used it to eliminate certain brands from contention. And from what I've seen/heard/experienced, their recommendations have been spot on. I did not just use the book. I also used Lucie's List (lucieslist.com) for more condensed, practical advice. And I also agree that nothing beats seeing and testing out in the stores. It was definitely not an all or nothing method!

This. I would either narrow it down myself (or on Amazon) to 2 or 3 of an item and then use the book to help make the final decision or use the book to choose 2 or 3 and use Amazon reviews to help make a final decision.
