At what point do I need to stop rough housing with my 2 year old?

So, right now, the munchkin is just a tiny collection of cells.  But seeing all these tickers with fruit in them has got me thinking.... hmmmm, at some point my 2 year old and I are going to have to take it easy on the little one in my belly.

Any thoughts on when??

  • I rough house with my niece and nephew all the time. As soon as I found out, I just don't let them jump on my stomach (or back if I'm laying down). Otherwise, I think as long as you are comfortable and taking any direct blows, you're fine.

  • I rough house some but my 2 3/4 year old can be really rough with jumping into my lap and stuff.  I still carry both kids.  When I was pregnant with DS I was still carrying DD right up to the end.  I didn't carry her unless I really needed to be doing so cuzz it didn't feel good but such is life you know!

I think, to answer your actual question, I would stop when it no longer feels ok or when your doc warns you to.

  • I was just thinking about this, I was playing with my 2 year old niece this weekend and she jumped on my stomach, it freaked me out but apparently it's hard to hurt the little one this early, I'm just 5 weeks, but I plan on being more careful now.

  • I was wondering the exact same thing as my 18 month old insisted on tackling me and bouncing up on and down on my belly this afternoon.

Guess I'll just go with what feels right - but probably get daddy to take over this role in a month or two.

  • Little peapod is all protected and comfy in there, so I'm not worried. DS was bouncing around on my stomach this evening.

I think my rough housing will slow not because I'm worried about LO2, but because it will eventually become fairly difficult to roll around on the floor.

  • I fell in my 2nd tri last pg and hit my belly going down.  The nurse reminded my that water doesn't compress.  At this point, there is so much protection around that baby, that I don't think you need to worry.  Especially since most 2yo don't have enough force to really do much harm.  Your body will tell you when it isn't ok.
