Best baby tubs

Need help. FTM trying to figure out the best baby tub to register for. I need something that I will be able to bathe the LO in when he is a newborn in the kitchen sink and then transition for when he is older. I was going to get the puj tub but I was reading people's reviews that said the tub only works in bathroom sinks and isn't very sturdy. What do you reccomend?

Re: Best baby tubs

  • We have the Fisher-Price Whale-of-a-Tub, and we love it.  DS has had all of his baths in it (except his first bath in the hospital).  Initially DH was concerned about trying to give a slippery newborn a bath, but he quickly learned that the plastic infant insert made it easy because it stops DS from sliding down.  DH has given DS almost all of his baths because he really enjoys spending that time with DS.  DS also loves to have the water sprinkled on him from the little whale toy that comes with it.  (It says that it will fit in a sink, but we've never tried it.  It seems like it would be too big.)

Same here. we got it with DD#1 2 years ago and are using it now with DD#2. It's great, cute and not expensive. It's held up very well!

  • Thanks guys. Where did you bathe them, the counter? When they were first born did they slide around alot? I'm so worried about those first baths.
  • We set it inside our regular bathtub.  DS didn't/doesn't slide around at all.  The tub has an angled back with some padding to help keep LO from sliding side to side.  The plastic insert prevents LO from sliding down.

We have the FP Whale Tub too, it's great.  The first couple weeks, it took two of us to bath her then I got the hang of it.  During this time, I found DD still needed one of us to support her head while in there (rolled up towels might have worked too).    Tub doesn't slip though and I like using the kitchen counter because it was easier on my back.

I have also used one of those towel slings that sits in a infant bath.  I actually found this easier at the newborn stage when on my own but drying out the towel each time was a pain.

  • We have the FP Whale Tub also!

Works great for the kitchen sink, and I've used it in the tub as well.

When he gets a little older and is able to sit unassisted, I'll take the green piece out from the middle.

  • We have the whale of a tub - and we used the counter. Awesome bathtub. We almost went with the puj tub because of lack of space but then we moved into a big house. It is pretty neat though.

  • A few friends recommended this one to us https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12269377 because it will last until the baby is a couple years old and isn't very expensive. Obviously we haven't used it yet, but seems like it would be ok. I'm concerned about how much space it takes up, and had wanted to get something smaller and sleeker, but don't want to have to then buy another tub in 6 months or so.

  • We had the Whale of a Tub, but after a couple months Liam hated bats because he was getting bigger and wasnt able to be under the water anymore. We got this one and he loved it!! He used it until he could sit in the big tub in his own. It's nice because it great for newborns and the other side is for sitters.

We have the Boon Naked tub, it collapses like those silicone food colanders.

I love that it collapses flat, and the look of it.

The reviews on it are sort of mixed though, and highlight a few problems that are all legit. For our newborn, we added a $5 infant-sized bath sponge so LO can lay in it without sliding on the plastic and sinking too deep.

I really want this tub! I think most Boon products looks so cool and I love that it will fold flat to store easily. I'm glad to see a positive review on it and thank you for the advice for the sponge!

  • We used something like the whale of a tub till he outgrew it at about 5-6 months. Then we got the munchkin seal tub... it is awesome! He loves that thing, and its nice and padded so he likes baths again. We put it right in our big tub - with that and the handheld shower sprayer baths are super easy. Besides the bending over of course...

We have the Primo Euro Bath and i love it. We used it on our kitchen table at first, but now we just put it in the bath tub. It is larger, but it can be used from birth to 2 years, and it easily fits in a normal size bath tub. I also like that it has 2 sides, one for when baby is small that is at an angle with side supports and a spot that their bum rests on so they can't slide too far, and the other side that will work when DS gets older and can easily sit up on his own. I got mine for $15 at a local baby store not for $40 like on Amazon.

I had a pink Fisher Price tub with DD and bought the Primo for DS that is due in March. I really struggled with DD sliding all over the place in the Fisher Price tub, even though it had a semi non-skid backing on the infant side. And then by the time she was big enough to sit on the toddler side she was too big for the tub. I really like that the Primo has the sides to keep him from sliding side to side as a newborn, and then it's bigger overall to last longer.
