I have been waiting an hour now to see a pediatric specialist. Q is being lovely but this is really too much. There are still at least 3 people ahead of us and when a patient nicely asked the nurse if it was a busy day she said its always like this.
If that's true something is seriously wrong here

Re: wtf
It is extremely frustrating. There are multiple reasons why this happens but from experience it is usually because the patient before you was late and the one before them was late, etc. When I worked as a NP and saw 20-25 patients a day- if my first patient was late the day was screwed. My patients were booked for 20 minutes- so if the first patient is 10 minutes late they think no big deal. But they are already half way through their allotted time when they arrive. So I see them and it takes 20 minutes- then I am 10 minutes late for the next patient already. And so on- it is a vicious cycle that is hard to break until your lunch time when you can catch up for the afternoon. There are also emergencies that you can't account for.
Now of course some docs are just rude and come in to the office late which is unacceptable. They need to respect the patient's time too. Of course for a pediatric MD running that far behind is too much- like you said kids can't wait that long. They should have tried to call you to let you know to come in an hour later because they had to know the MD was that far behind.
ETA: I hope my response doesn't sound preachy because that isn't what I intended! I just know that both sides are tough- for the patient and the MD when they are running behind. The thing that annoyed me the most was the patient who came 20 minutes late and then wanted to know if I was running behind. Um I am now thanks. Stepping off my soapbox now.
No, i do understand that is happens. I myself have been 5 minutes late to just about every appointment I've made since I've had a baby, but I usually do end up waiting anyway.
What bothered me was the nurse who said it was always like this. If its always like this than there are some problems with how you are running things.
Also, I know they don't want people eating or drinking past a certain point in the building but if you're going to have them waiting this long, you're going to have to make allowances. I myself was starving by the time we got out so I sure as hell wasn't going to deny my child.
The not eating thing is crazy- especially for kids. You can't expect kids to sit around for so long and not eat. I don't know why they would have a policy like that.
