May 2012 Moms

How about a BMB check in?

So today I was talking to DH about solids and how we?re almost there and realized WE?RE ALMOST THERE! Already almost 6 months. It?s insane. I know most of you are way closer to that milestone than I am (since my May Baby is technically a June Bug) so let?s do a little group check in. How is everybody doing? (This might get long, but our board?s pretty quiet so why not?)

How are your LOs sleeping? We were STTN at one point but that?s long gone now. Between teething and growth spurts we?re up typically once but sometimes 2-3 times a night.

Are you started solids/close/not so close? We?re waiting until 6 months to start but I?m mostly dreading it because it means she?s getting big :(

How?s their personality developing? I think she?s totally a 50/50 of me and DH. Sometimes she sits quiet and thoughtful and just watches everybody and then turns total 180 into DH and is such a ham! Laughing, making faces and funny noises, flirting; it?s too funny.

What is the latest achievement? DD loves sitting up and standing. She?ll even stay standing alone if we put her hands on the coffee table. She?s so strong. She can pull herself up holding on to my fingers from sitting to standing. It?s awesome, but she already hated being on her tummy and now hates it more compared to being up looking around.

Teething or no signs yet? Definitely signs are popping up. I don?t feel anything cutting through yet, but she drools constantly, tries to shove her whole bib or Sophie into her mouth, has become more whiney especially in the evening, and sometimes has a runny nose which my mother said is a good sign things are moving around.

Who?s back to work/ a SAHM/ still on leave? I?m still on leave (I?m in Canada and get a year but I took 3 months and gave DH 9 since you can split it between parents. He?s military so wanted the time with her while he could have it). I?m not on paid leave anymore I?m on my own time. It makes things a little tighter budget-wise for us but I want to make it work. I?m even considering giving notice and being a SAHM but I have until January to decide since that?s when I told work I?d be back.

How?s DH/SO dealing with the new baby? He?s great, and LOVES her to death. He was so uncomfortable with her and would avoid having to deal with her but he?s getting better. Sometimes it gets frustrating when he spends his whole night playing XBOX and barely acknowledges her except when she?s being ?loud and annoying? but I?ve asked him to try to play a more active roll; not for me, only for her. I think he still just gets stuck back in his old lifestyle.

How are you and DH? I feel we?re getting back to normal. Being home together all the time makes me want to kill him sometimes, but that is not postpartum related ;)

And most importantly, how are you! It?s been a rough month, but it may be that fall here came on fast and brought cloudy skies and cold weather out of nowhere but it seems to be lifting with Halloween coming and getting DDs costume ready. I have lots of pets (3 dogs and 3 cats) and I was always that person who was ok with it when I was told I might not be able to carry children and figured I?d just have more animals and deal. Now that life surprised me and blessed us with her, I can?t imagine her not being here. I almost can?t remember my life before her?though I think I DO remember my house being cleaner :P

Re: How about a BMB check in?

  • How are your LOs sleeping? STTN since the end of her 3rd week :) Yep I'm lovin it. She goes down around 9-10:30, wakes up between 7-8.

Are you started solids/close/not so close? We are doing solids for fun, so just a taste here and there to explore different flavors.

How?s their personality developing? She's a silly. She is very particular and independent, just like me. Uh oh! And she is such a daddy's girl already. She loooooves DH.

What is the latest achievement? Standing on her own while holding on, sitting unsupported, sucking her toes :)

Teething or no signs yet? Just the drooling and gnawing on things. But she's been like that for months.

Who?s back to work/ a SAHM/ still on leave? SAHM. It's boring but worth it.

How?s DH/SO dealing with the new baby? He is an amazing father. He has so much fun with her and they already have a special relationship.

How are you and DH? It's tough, honestly. We are not the same as we were. It's not our lowest point, but we are definitely in a rough patch. Things have been getting better though.

And most importantly, how are you! I am very happy. Very dependent on the Lord to get me through as a mom, but I'm loving it so much.

  • How are your LOs sleeping? We were totally blessed to have a good sleeper from the start. She was doing almost 6 hours from the get go! (thank you Universe)

Are you started solids/close/not so close? We?re going to start this weekend (just shy of 6 months) because I am starting to have trouble keeping up with BM as my supply is slightly diminished since returning to work.

How?s their personality developing? She is such a happy baby (most of the time) and completely hysterical. Laughing, making faces and a cacophony of noises. She's been pursing her lips lately and started giving "kisses" (pressing her mouth into our faces).

What is the latest achievement? She's a total roly-poly. She will travel via rolling when she wants to be somewhere.

Teething or no signs yet? I thought she was a couple of weeks ago with excessive drooling and chomping on things but that subsided.

Who?s back to work/ a SAHM/ still on leave? I was seriously underemployed since two weeks after getting pregnant but I landed a job almost two months ago. Now I'm working full time plus I have a private practice one night plus one day on the weekend. So I am away from the baby entirely too much but we've gotta catch up on our bills.

How?s DH/SO dealing with the new baby? He?s amazing with her! I couldn't ask for a better "baby daddy"

How are you and DH? We are okay, but my lack of sleep/overworking/self esteem/wrist pain is definitely affecting intimacy. I'm trying to work on this. sigh

And most importantly, how are you! In light of my above answer, I'm doing really well and am grateful for my amazing family and life.

  • How are your LOs sleeping? Awful Sad. She didn't sleep great as a newborn and then we hit a stretch where she would sleep at least 6 hours. Then 3 months hit and it all went to crap. She would get up every one to two hours and sometimes want to stay up for two hours. It has been a very exhausting 6 weeks. I was always anti CIO but this week I just told myself if she is fed and changed she can cry for a minute and she won't die. Well apparantly that did the trick. The past two nights I didn't rush to her when she started crying and she only cried for three minutes and then slept great. She only got up twice last night and went right back down once and cried for one minute the other time.

Are you started solids/close/not so close? We started a small amount of cereal this week. I think in a couple of weeks we are going to start avocado.

How?s their personality developing?  She is so happy. I remember a time when you had to really work to get her to smile now she just smiles all day. She is such a social butterfly she loves everyone.

What is the latest achievement? She loves to stand and sit. She has started rolling a bit more too. She can even get up on her knees sometimes and spin herself around. The Pedi thinks she might be crawling within the month.

Teething or no signs yet? Just a ton of drooling and chewing.

Who?s back to work/ a SAHM/ still on leave? I have been back to work since 6 weeks. It is hard some days but I know she is in a great place. We were lucky to have a friend who has an almost 2 year old volunteer to watch her for the same price as daycare.

How?s DH/SO dealing with the new baby? He is great. I can tell the two of them are going to be trouble together. I love how she lights up when she sees him. He does get frustrated more easily then I do but he is really trying to work on that.

How are you and DH? It depends on the day. lol. The no sleep has changed our relationship and caused some tension. He works more hours but I feel like I get less sleep. Somedays we get in this battle of who has it worse and it does no one any good. However, we have also grown so much closer since having her. Our marriage has never been stronger and I can tell our love has grown so much deeper since having her.

And most importantly, how are you! I'm really good. I had a bit of breakdown on Sunday because Saturday night was really bad and I am just really tired. I had a good cry at church and a talk with my Mom and I feel better now. I was never someone who knew they were born to be a mom. However, now that I am one I could never imagine being anything else.

  • How are your LOs sleeping? DD is STTN like a champ! She's goes to bed around 8:00 and sleeps until 5:30 (weekdays) or 7:00 (weekends).

Are you started solids/close/not so close? Close. DD is definitely showing an interest in our food when we eat, but she still hasn't quite got eating solids down. Some days she does alright (not great), and other days she reverts back to not opening her mouth and tongue thrusting. We just keep trying every few days. Eventually she'll figure it out.

How?s their personality developing? DD is so serious and loves to people watch. But if you talk to her, she will chat back and flash those huge gummy smiles. I'm going to miss those gummy smiles :)

What is the latest achievement? DD has been sitting pretty well for about a month now. Still no rolling. :/ But her latest thing is becoming more dexterous with her hands. She actually sees items and intentionally reaches for and grabs them (as opposed to grabbing things on accident)...then it goes in the mouth.

Teething or no signs yet? She's been gnawing away on her hands for about 2 months now, but no teeth yet. I feel around on her gums, and I don't even feel bumps.

Who?s back to work/ a SAHM/ still on leave? Back at work. I went back at 8 wks PP. I was ready to go back though. I'm not gonna lie, I'm just not SAHM material and never really wanted to be. For me personally, I feel I appreciate DD more after a long day at work. When I pick her up from daycare, we are so happy to see eachother. Then we have girl talk on the way home ;)

How?s DH/SO dealing with the new baby? He's doing awesome. He is in charge of bath time every other night, and he plays with her every morning before going to work. He does "I'm a Little Tea Pot" with her, and she loves it.

How are you and DH? I think we are better than ever. We have always been very close, but after having DD, I think we became even closer. We learned new things about eachother and saw new sides that we never knew existed. Life is great.

And most importantly, how are you! I'm doing good. I just wish there was more time in a day. My house is a wreck, and I'm so behind on laundry. I just need to find a new groove for getting chores done because not getting them done is driving me insane. Just not used to not being able to do everything.

  • How are your LOs sleeping?

I can?t complain!  She STTN early on (like, 2 weeks) but then hit the 4 month sleep regression and we had a rough few weeks.  Right now she still occasionally wakes once, usually at 5am, whining for her pacifier.  We are slowly starting wean from the paci now and it?s going pretty well!

Are you started solids/close/not so close?

We started solids last weekend and are doing baby led weaning.  So far she?s tried avocado (thumbs down) and broccoli (thumbs up!).  Next I think we?ll do green beans, another veggie that?s easy to hold on to, which I think she enjoys.  She?s mostly still just playing with her food at this point.

    How?s their personality developing?

She?s such a happy baby!  She loves being around people but can also entertain herself if we put her in the jumparoo.  I can also tell she?s going to be the type who loves thrills ? she laughs like a maniac when you  ?startle? her by saying Boo! Or some such.  Peekaboo is a favorite game.  I guess she takes after DH in that regard, but she also loves her food like her mommy!  She shakes with excitement when she sees her bottle and if you don?t feed her immediately when she decides she?s hungry, then watch out.

    What is the latest achievement?

Almost sitting up!  Sometimes she can prop herself up for a few minutes without falling over.

    Teething or no signs yet?

She?s drooling, has red cheeks, and is shoving everything into her mouth, but we haven?t seen any changes in her gums yet.

    Who?s back to work/ a SAHM/ still on leave?

I went back to work in early July.  I am also not SAHM material... by the end of my leave I was starting to go a little crazy.  I enjoy working. It helps that daycare has a webcam so I can spy on her.  J

How?s DH/SO dealing with the new baby?

He readily admits that he?s madly in love with her.  He does great, definitely pulls his weight with chores.  They love making faces at each other.

    How are you and DH?

We are doing well.  Our sex life is the only thing I would change because it?s pretty much non-existent, but we are working on it.  Other than that things are good.

And most importantly, how are you!

I?m good!  I feel pretty good about myself most days and work is going well.  Overall, life is good.  J

  • How are your LOs sleeping?

Not really.  He has never STTN and wakes up 2-7 times a night depending on how he feels.  He is always up for the day by 6am.

Are you started solids/close/not so close?

We started solids on his four mouth birthday.  He loves pretty much everything we've tried.  I'm going to start some BLW approach in about a week.

    How?s their personality developing?

He is such a little charmer and can be shy and super serious.  He'll give these smiles and then push his face into the shoulder of whoever is holding him.  He doesn't smile at everything but when he does its big and happy.  He seems to want to figure things out before he decides if they are funny or not.

    What is the latest achievement?

He sits up unsupported for about 15 seconds at a time and just started belly laughs!

    Teething or no signs yet?

Super drooler, fussy fits and everything goes in his mouth but no signs on gums!

    Who?s back to work/ a SAHM/ still on leave?

Back at work and hating it.

How?s DH/SO dealing with the new baby?

Dh loves Connor although is not as tolerant as I am when he starts his craziness.

    How are you and DH?

We are great but mostly because I continue to do everything.  I'm not going to lie that I enjoy being super mom  and he would help if I asked but  every now and then I glance at over him sleeping soundly as I rock Connor and think about punching him.

And most importantly, how are you!

I'm good.  I hate being back at work and am running on 4 of my 8 cylinders for the most part but having my son is amazing and my life has never been more full!

  • imagelittleredfish:

How are your LOs sleeping? We moved DD to her own room and she was sleeping for 9 straight hours for about a week!  She is now going to bed at 730, waking at 11, 230 and 630 (for the day).  I miss those long stretches!

Are you started solids/close/not so close? Started baby oatmeal at 5 months and added carrots and sweet potatoes last week.

How?s their personality developing?  She is a super calm, easy going, happy baby unless she is hungry or over tired.  Then, you better watch out!

What is the latest achievement? DD loves rolling both front to back and back to front.  She is now sitting up by herself for a few minutes unsupported.  She is also making more consonant sounds.

Teething or no signs yet?  Has been showing signs for 2 months!  Drooling, shoving fist in mouth, can get whiny, runny nose.

Who?s back to work/ a SAHM/ still on leave?    I am back to work M, T, W, F and off on Thursdays so I get Thursday and the weekend with DD!  I feel like I get the best of both worlds!  I had a lot of post partum anxiety and being back to work has been really great for both DD and I.

How?s DH/SO dealing with the new baby? At first, he was SO uncomfortable with her.  He is the calm one in the relationship so it was unexpected to see him get so frazzled when she was upset.  In the last 3 weeks or so, he has come full circle and seems to REALLY enjoy being around her.  He doesn't want to leave her on the weekends if we get offered plans.  It is so cute!

How are you and DH?  As friends, we are doing better than ever.  We are really in sync and not fighting at all.  As lovers, horrible and as a relationship prioritizing each other separate from the baby? Horrible.

And most importantly, how are you! I was really struggling for about 2.5 months post partum.  Severe health anxiety thinking I was going to die or something was wrong with DD even though she is incredibly healthy.  Now?  I am doing great.   A little underslept, but overall I feel more connected to that little nugget than I ever thought possible.

  • How are your LOs sleeping? He was waking only once during the night, but lately it's been very hit or miss.  Usually he's up at least twice during the night.

Are you started solids/close/not so close? We haven't started solids yet, but I've noticed he's starting to become more interested in what we're eating.  He always stares at me when I eat breakfast.  I think we'll give him some butternut squash or sweet potato on Thanksgiving because he'll be just about six months by then.

How?s their personality developing? He has a great personality.  Lately, he's just started laughing on his own without my prompting.  He'll just mess around and crack himself up.  I love it.

What is the latest achievement? Rolling over.  He's only done it twice, though.  Once from back to belly and once from belly to back.

Teething or no signs yet? He's got all of the signs of teething, but no teeth yet.

Who?s back to work/ a SAHM/ still on leave? Staying at home.  I feel very fortunate to be able to stay at home, especially on days when I'm super tired from being up all night.  At first, I really missed work, but now I'm starting to get into my new groove.  I also teach a class at night once a week and that has been good for getting out of the house and still feeling like I'm contributing at least a little bit financially.

How?s DH/SO dealing with the new baby? DH is great with him and DS's face just lights up when he comes home from work.

How are you and DH? We're really good.  We both love being parents and we love talking about our future together with DS.

And most importantly, how are you! I am well. I'm in a good place in my life right now and I know I will look back on this time as a very happy time.
  • How are your LOs sleeping? DS has been sleeping through the night since about 6 weeks old meaning he sleeps from 8 or 8:30 until about 5-6am. He gets up eats most days and goes back to sleep for about an hour or two.

Are you started solids/close/not so close? I was given the ok to start solids at his appointment on Monday but we are going to wait until December to start. BM is working just fine for us right now.

How?s their personality developing? DS is a very mellow baby. He rarely cries and is happy 99% of the time.  He is totally in love with his big sister.

What is the latest achievement? DS loves sitting up and standing. If he is laying on his back he tries to sit up.

Teething or no signs yet? He has two bumps on his lower gums. They come and go most days.

Who?s back to work/ a SAHM/ still on leave? I have been a SAHM since June of 2010. I will continue to be a SAHM for at least the next two years. As I am starting Nursing Classes in Jan 2013, this is my second degree.

How?s DH/SO dealing with the new baby? He is great with the kids. Always has been.

How are you and DH? Oh we have been here before so it been a quick adjustment for us. Things really did not change to much once DS was born.

And most importantly, how are you!  Tired. Often wondering how I am going to do Nursing school with 2 kids, but I am Ok.
