After my last post about hating pumping I thought I'd add I do love breast feeding. This is the second child I've bf and this time was easier from the get go, knowing what I was doing was a big help.
I love not having bottles to wash, I love the time with Lucas, being the youngest of three he doesn't get as much momma time as I'd like. I love not having to think about having food when we leave the house. I am not looking forward to starting soilds. I'm waiting until six months. I'm thinking of bfing past a year this time. Still have to talk to dh about that one. I am so used to nip that I don't need more than a burp cloth for cover anymore. I just love that I've been able to have this experience with Lucas.
How are all of you doing now that you've had time to adjust to bfing??
Re: I love bfing
I agree 100% that EBF is way easier than formula. Nip isn't a problem for me either and I love not having to clean bottles. And middle of the night feelings are so much easier when you don't have to mix/warm a bottle!
I'm hoping to bf past the first year, maybe whole first two years and save myself having to buy homo milk (so expensive here!). My original plan was to wait until 6 months for solids but DH keeps suggesting sooner. LO will be 5 months on November 1 so might start with avocados then... What do you think? My DH thinks she will sleep better if she starts solids...
I love it for all the reasons you said, and I can tell she loves it too. Her face when she hears the snap on my nursing tank is priceless and her smiley milk dribble face is too cute. My original goal was 6 months but now that we're almost there and on such a roll, my new goal is a year.
My other boys started soilds at four months but they born slept worse after starting soilds. This time I'm waiting until six months but that's just because this is my last and I'm in no hurry for him to grow up.
I hated BFing soooooooo much over the first couple of months, but now I love it! I'm so grateful that it worked out for us in the end and that I didn't give up - there were definitely a few times when I came close. Now that we're both efficient at it and she eats quickly, I love how it calms down/relaxes her, how easy it is to nurse to sleep (instead of having to walk around and rock her forever), and the fact that I don't have to get up at night when she wants to nurse - I just roll on my side, roll her to the side, pop her on, and we can both stay half asleep
I have to say, though, learning to BF has definitely been one of the toughest parts about being a FTM and one of the biggest obstacles to getting over the baby blues.
And I love it when he stares into my eyes while nursing. Or smiles with a big mouthful of boob :
