Nurseries and Baby Gear

What is your changing table?

I am trying to figure out how I would want the nursery since it is a pretty small room. Trying to get ideas of how others have theirs setup or what you tried and didn't work.

I originally wanted just a regular dresser that they could then have later, but those are pretty big...

What do you use as your changing table? I have seen the long dresser, the crib moved up, a smaller and more narrow dresser or the pack n play.

  • I got an old dresser from a friend, it is about 5 feet long and about countertop height. I repainted it white and put new handles on it. Then I put the changing pad right on top. It's been perfect!

  • We painted an antique dresser light pink and added all new, crystal hardware. The dresser is very roomy with tons of storage, and will grow with our daughter.

  • We had it set up to use the dresser as the changing table. I have yet to use it and took the changing thing off of it already. We keep the PnP in the living room and just change her there. We are pretty lazy but it's nice to have something to safely put her in too.

  • We bought a dresser from PBK and bought the changing table piece that you can place on top, and then remove once you don't need it anymore.

  • I have a bedroom set that I got when I was younger (dresser, queen bed, nightstand and chest). Still looks great so we bought a crib to match when I was pregnant with DD. Her room is MASSIVE (I'm talking 12x20) so we had all of the furniture in there (queen bed AND crib) no problem. She has since moved into the queen bed so the crib sat in the attic until recently when we pulled it out for this LO who will get shafted with the 10 x 10 room.... So, we pulled the dresser only from DD's room (which we attached the changing pad to and it was perfect), have one of the Ikea Expedit cube shelving systems (only two cubes wide) that will stand tall, and the crib in the nursery. Not a lot of room otherwise.

My sister bought an actual changing table and hated it because it has one use and little storage. Having the dresser as the changing table base was great because all the diapers, cream, clothes, etc. was right there, as well as the wipe warmer so I was never having to reach for anything.

  • We use a pad on the top of our dresser.

Great dresser and cupboard on the side to store diapers and whatever else you need in baskets.

  • We have a small nursery too, and bought a 4 cubbie ikea expedit in white. Put two drawer inserts in the 2 top cubbies, and but two green canvas baskets in the bottom inserts. 30" changing pad fits well on top of it.

  • On our main floor, we put a changing pad on our washer in our mud room.  It's the perfect height and works well!   Upstairs we still have our pnp up in our room to use the changing table. In ds room we have a changing pad on his dresser which we haven't ever used yet.

  • I tried scouring craigslist for a dresser to use as a changing table, but gave up after several weeks of no luck. We ordered the Davinci Piedmont changer, and I LOVE it. It's not too big - there's room on top for the changing pad plus a basket to hold necessities in, and it has 3 big drawers and a cabinet. I got some drawer organizers to keep things nice and neat inside the drawers. And it was only $180, which was much cheaper than other dressers I'd found.
  • We use the three drawer Ikea Hemnes dresser. It's a good size for a small room.
  • DS's nursery doubles as our home office, and so space was at a premium. We needed to fit a printer cart, desk w/desktop computer, and a huge rocking recliner in the room along with the nursery furniture. A crib and dresser or crib and stand alone changing table wouldn't work. We bought a combination crib and changer and have been really pleased with it. The changing table has three drawers in front and two shelves on the side, and with a diaper stacker tied to the crib there is plenty of storage (and all within arm's reach) for DS's diapers and covers, as well as diaper cream and the wipe solution we use. We keep his clothes in storage totes in the closet, again, within arm's reach when DS is on the changing table.

  • We have an antique dry sink. It's a different option so I'm chiming in. I'm not sure how your layout works and what you're looking for for your small space. We love it because it has lots of storage underneath (big boxes of disposable diapers, big boxes of wipes, towels, and now our CD stash fits nicely underneath). We hang all out clothes and have a closet organizer for socks, blankets, etc.

  • We have a VERY small room for our upcoming nursery. The crib, glider and dresser/changing table would have overwhelmed it, sadly. So we had to take a different approach. The upside of this tiny room is it has a huge closet. So, we are putting shelving with baskets in the closet to use for dresser-type storage and a getting a smaller changing table instead (probably one from IKEA). This has a smaller footprint than a dresser so the room is not overwhelmed by the furniture. It also will save us big bucks, as dressers are not cheap!

  • Our room is not very big either. We just got a crib that had a changing table attached. I love it!
