Ball pits

I have 200 balls but need more. I am sure there is some math equation for all this. To bad I went to law school not math school. humph.

    Meh, use as many as you want but I don't think it has to be completely full.  We are using T's pack-n-play for a ball pit and just bought 100 balls on Amazon.  They don't even completely cover the bottom but she still loves it and she doesn't know the difference that it's "supposed" to have more balls.  It's one of her favorite places to play right now so I'm not going to bother adding more. 

    Do the 200 balls you have cover the bottom of the pool?  If so maybe you could buy 200 more and then they'd be two layers deep. 

    I don't think 200 will cover, but maybe a light covering. 200 ball is a lot less than I thought!

    Our pool was 48x10 (so a little smaller than yours) and we had 200 balls. This is how it looked in terms of fullness:

     I just went to Target and they have bags of 150 balls for $14.99. They are the soft/flexible type. My Taregt had them in the sporting goods section (same aisle as roller skates).

    I'm sure there is some mathematical equation for this but really I think as long as she thinks it's fun that's all that matters!  I'm sure you could find a smaller pool for next to nothing right now and then 200 would be plenty!  Or try craigslist or resale shops for more balls for cheap.  I bought a huge bag of them at Once Upon a Child for $8.

    Ok, so the dimensions say 58"x 13".

     A(rea) = 3.14*r^2

    If the pool is 58" across, the radius is 29"

    So, the area = 3.14*29*29 = 2,641 sq"

    If you use 2.5" balls, then you would need ~ 528 balls to cover the bottom.

    If you use 3" balls, you would need ~ 293 balls.

    Really? We have that same pool and we only have 100 balls and it's ok for what it is.  I'd rather not clean 300 balls off the ground 

    Was it you who directed us to the amazon pvc-free balls? They are great, soft, mesh bag, no smell (of course I am putting them into a vinyl inflatable pool)!

    I don't know about numbers, but maybe check your local consignment stores. I bought three big bags of balls (totalling somewhere between 250-300) for $24.
