What's in LO's crib/bed?

It seems like only people here on TB don't do crib bumpers but the whole no-blankets, no- stuffed animals is universal. But what about now? We are way past the risk of SIDS but I remember reading somewhere that babies shouldn't sleep with a pillow under the heads and my mom keeps bugging me that DS needs to be cozy and he needs pillows and stuffed animals and a comforter. He still has nothing but a knitted blanket. What about you, how do you feel about it?

Re: What's in LO's crib/bed?

  • She has a stuffed giraffe she sleeps with, that's it. Oh, and a few pull toys attached to the teething rail I have on the crib.  I'm going to get some of the toddler sized sleep sacks for this winter.  I have put a blanket on her for the last hour of the night if she was up to nurse and it was cold, but I'm a Nervous Nelly!  She sleeps with a blanket at dc, so I don't know why I'm so worried!  Not to mention she moves around so much she'd probably never keep a blanket on.  This is on my list of things I need to ask my mom about.  She managed not to kill my sisters or I, so I figure she might know something :)

  • He has started with a blanket or two for over a year and more often than not he is on top of the blanket in the morning. He doesn't stay still at all!! May have to look into a sleep sack before the house starts getting chilly at night. He also has a glow worm and another toy is tied to the side of the crib. He has slept with the glow worm since he came home from the hospital....and it make a nice night light too!

  • DD has a lot in her crib, but she didn't start sleeping in it until she was 14m.  She a big stuffed dog, a little teddy bear, a pillow, a fleece blanket (her lovey) and a little thicker blanket she sleeps under.  She also has a toy that is attached to the rail but she doesn't really play with it.  I have noticed the few times that I have tried to take everything out she doesn't sleep as well.

  • A blanket and occasionally a doll if she grabs one before bed.

  • My son is 16 months and sleeps with nothing in his crib under advice from our pedi.  Just a tight fitted sheet over the mattress.  Our pedi told us at our last appointment that a thin blanket is ok now.  He hasn't needed one since we skipped winter in Oklahoma last year and the spring/summer were so hot.  We're due for some cooler weather this weekend so we'll try out a blanket.
  • He has a lovey and a blanket. It started this spring with knit light blanket. Now that it is getting colder I have given him the comforter that came with the bedding set (although we didn't use the bumper). I think that at this point the SIDS risk is minimal.

  • No pillow in her crib yet, but there's a pillow insert in the napper she uses at daycare.  We're definitely past the risk for SIDS.  DD sleeps with an A&A muslin blanket and a small cloth doll.  I keep one side of her crib slightly elevated by putting a pillow underneath the mattress (we've done that since she had strep and had difficulty breathing in August).

  • DD has a little lovey (which she's not really interested in). At night she's in a halo sleep sack and for her nap I put knitted blanket over her. She moves around too much for a blanket to do much good, though, and our apartment is cold, which is why I always put her in a sleep sack at night. And where we live it's normal for kids to be in sleep sacks until they 4-5 years old, so they're easy to find in her size and in different materials depending on the weather.

  • Oh dear she has a ton these days.  There's always been a stuffed Elmo, a blanket, and a lovey, but now she has taken on an obsession with her sock monkey and a personalized blanket of hers.  She sleeps so much better now that she has her favorite items to sleep with.

  • Nothing. She doesn't like anything in there. I try to keep a soft lamb in there and she throws it out. If I put a blanket in there, she throws it right out, as well. I haven't bothered trying a pillow yet.

  • A small blanket and one of those stuffed animal/pillow guys. She is very, very attatched to the pillow. It's her security blanket. She insisted on taking it with her when she got her flu shot. She hugged it so tight as she cried over the shot. So sad and so sweet at the same time.

  • He sleeps with three stuffed animals. They join him for the bedtime/naptime stories and then move with him into the crib. When he wants to be rocked to sleep, I have to hold all of them too. There's nothing else in the crib.

  • We have a musical seahorse that she can't sleep without. There is also another small teddy and a taggies blanket that she sleeps with. Since we live in Tucson it really doesn't get cold here so I don't know when I will give her a blanket probably not for a long time since she wiggle so much in her sleep.

  • She has three stuffed lambs (all the same ones) which are her lovies. They are all interchangable--and as long as at least on of them are in the crib she is fine with it. She also got a blanket and a mini pillow pet at about 15 months added to her crib. The blanket never stays on, but she does like to cuddle it. We added the pillow pet because when she was tired before nap, she would find a stuffed animal and put her head on it. She barely uses the pillow. She only throws everything out of the crib when she doesn't want to sleep (which is once in a blue moon) or in the AM when she wakes up.

  • DS has always had a (breathable) bumper, and slept with a blanket since he was 4 months old. I'm contemplating giving him a stuffed animal soon, as he's showing more interest in loving on them recently. Not planning on introducing a pillow for some time. I just don't think he'd use it properly, as he still moves alll over the crib (which is why I still have him in a sleep sack).

  • She's had the glow worm in her crib forever. We used the sleep sacks all last winter. Over the summer, I would cover her with a light blanket. We'll probably go back to the sleep sacks this winter, as well. She does have a few additional stuffies in her crib now. She usually tosses them over the side.

  • Everything but the kitchen sink haha.

Around 12 months, I started letting him take a few stuffed animals in the crib during naps.  Then a little later, I let him have them in there overnight.  I also bought him a pillow pet mini, because he loves to lay on pillows during the day, but I've only seen him use it once.  And now he's attached to several books (not a stuffed animal or blanket), so those are in there now too.  I have no idea how he's comfy lol.

  • DD sleeps with her favorite pink blanket, and whatever strikes her fancy after story time. She is a cuddler, so she generally always wants a stuffed animal to snuggle with. We actually were "those" parents that had bumpers until she could stand in her crib, so we are a little less skittish about doing everything the baby books say.
