(CP) Am I the only one?

We have never spent the night apart from G... Next weekend, we were invited to a couple of different Halloween parties and I was just thinking how nice it would be if she could spend the night somewhere, but she never has before. Ideally, we wanted her to be sttn first, but at this point, that seems like it will never happen.

We don't have an overnight sitter available next weekend, so it's really just a thought. But I wonder if I'm the only one who hasn't done it yet?

If you have, explain how it went down.. Did someone stay with LO at your house? Did they go to Grandma's?

Re: (CP) Am I the only one?

  • two times, both he spent the night at my moms.

we had a wedding in April, and then in July my department threw me a going away party since I was leaving my job. I wouldn't have been able to get him at a decent hour and he would have just been going back to my moms to be watched the next day also while I worked.

  • We left Q at MIL's for a night when he was 11 months. He was fine but she did not follow our rules for care so we won't leave him there again for a long time. My general preference would be that if we leave him, someone comes to stay at our house but honestly but MIL has proven untrustworthy in that situation too and my mom just wouldn't.

  • Almost a year ago we went up to my parents house for a weekend.  We stopped at my parents house before checking into our hotel.  My sister and parents offered to take Cody for the night so we could have a night together.  Cody stayed at their house.  He was not STTN at that time but my sister doesn't sleep so that was not an issue.  He slept in his PNP in my sister's room.  He was happy and playing when we got there the next morning.  My sister would text me a pic or an update every now and then of him playing or eating.

And that night we finally got to a restaurant we had seen several times on Man V Food that we wanted to go to and check out the burger and fries featured on the show.  It was one of the 2 restaurants he checked out not the challenge restaurant.  It was so good!  Can't beat bacon dusted french fries.  Then we went to a bar my sister helped open and I had a martini with skittles infused vodka.  As you can tell it was a memorable evening.  And it's been the only night I have been away from LO overnight.

  • The only time was the two nights after our wedding. I was living with my parents at the time, so they just took over - I stopped by to nurse and cuddle the next morning.

  • L had her first overnight in July when DH and I had bachelor/bachelorette parties to go to on the same night. She spent the night at my moms and they dropped her off before 8:00 the next morning (per my request). I cried when I dropped her off in the afternoon, but once I was out with the girls it was easier.

She did another overnight in August for the wedding (same people whose Bach parties we were at). My ILs were also at the wedding so they took her home when they left. DH and I were staying overnight at the wedding venue. Honestly, L was getting so tired and cranky by the time my ILs left with her that it wasn't all that difficult. She crashed and slept hard and we picked her up the next morning on our way home.

We have another wedding in November so that will be her third overnight, with my ILs again. It is hard to leave her, but it is really nice to have some time with DH just to reconnect as a couple.

  • We have not left her yet (since bringing her home, that is). I just don't want to, not yet.

  • My mom has taken J every night we're there since he was born.  We visit about once a month, and spend at least one night there.  She puts the p&p in her room and knows he doesn't STTN.  She loves being able to give us a break.  We're usually just downstairs, but she also took him when we were dealing with gram's death for a night or two, while we stayed at MILs.

At grandma's house - anything that works (rocking, bottle, walkign) to get him to sleep, she's allowed to do.  I don't try to force my rules on that, because it's a strange place, YKWIM?

  • I picked ss, because technically he has, just not in the normal way. I work nights, so I'm away a lot. But a couple of times, DH has been sick and he stayed at my sister's house. Haven't left him just to get away ever though.

  • C has gone to MIL's at least a half dozen times overnight. They beg to have her, so we've done it anytime we've had a wedding or something specific to go to. She might be going there for two nights straight next month as my husband is going away for 4 days and I have to work. I'm still trying to gear myself up for that one lol

  • I didn't leave DD1 overnight until she was 18 months, and then my parents came and stayed with her at our house for one night. I've never left DD2 overnight, and probably won't for several more months, maybe not even until next summer. I know my parents take wonderful care of my girls, but I'm just not comfortable with it until they are a little older.

  • DD stays over at my mom's all the time, and has stayed over at MILs and at DH's aunts house, too.  The first time she slept over at my mom's was when she was about 3.5 months old, and it's been almost once a month since then.  She's staying there this Saturday, actually.  We've also brought her to friends houses with us and just brought the PnP and put her to bed there, only to move her to the car and then to her crib when it was time to go home.  She's a sleeper, and we're very lucky in that she is not really bothered by being disturbed like that, and she can and will sleep pretty much anywhere.

The first time she had a sleep over, we packed EVERYTHING DD could've possibly needed.  She was also in the process of transitioning from BM to FF at the time, so I had all these half mixed bottles for my mom to have to add Formula to and everything, but it was fine.  I wrote out a basic outline of about when she was eating and when she napped and when she went to bed and all of that, and my mom always sends me an email after DD goes to be to let me know that everything is okay.  It's a lot easier now that DD eats regular food and doesn't have bottles anymore or anything.  During the summer she was sleeping in a PnP in my parents' living room, because their second floor (where her crib is) wasn't air conditioned.  Now that she's back upstairs, I bring them our monitor.  I also pack one of her favorite blankies, her nightlight, her sleep sounds giraffe and one or two of her favorite bed time books.  Just to make it feel more like home.  I have in the past forgotten one or all of these things, and she's done just fine, though.

Kids are resilient, and capable of a lot more than we often give them credit for.  Maybe a sleepover while you and/or your DH are around and able to go and get LO in the night if there is a need for that.  It might give you more peace of mind to know that you are available if necessary, rather than her having LO's first sleepover be while you are out of town or otherwise unavailable.  Good luck!

SS -  because the answer really is "Yes", but it was only once. And she left after dinner and we picked her up before breakfast.

Yep, pretty much the same here. We didn't drop her off until after 7 and picked her up by 9. She only slept about 8 hours at grandma's, then spent most of the day napping at our house.

ETA: This was just a few weekends ago, so B was a year old before she ever stayed overnight with anyone but us.

  • Oh yes, I've left him!

I left him at my mom's on NYE, he was only 3 months.  He's stayed with her a handful of time and with my ILs once.  He's staying with my mom this saturday and also November 10th and with my ILs early December.

I love getaways!  And our parents love having him for sleepovers.

It's really easy for us though.  Both parents have A once a week so he's really used to being in their care.  They both have nurseries with cribs set up at their houses too that he naps in on a weekly basis.  It's totally no big deal when he goes for a sleepover.  I love it and embrace it.

  • My sister stayed at our house with L for 2 nights while we came to find a place to live in TX.  I was super nervous, I cried when we left, but it went really well.

We first went for a wedding and after the wedding we drop Matt at my Mom's and we went our way. We returned by 5am so we picked Matt and return to our home.... I'm planning something similar /minus the wedding/ again but this time he would spend the whole night... let's see

  • A spent one night at my parents' house when we had a wedding to go to. But we also stayed overnight and were actually home to put help put him to bed. Friday we have another wedding and my parents will take A again. This time though we won't be there so it is his first real sleepover. I think he will be fine because he sees my mom all the time. I will miss him like crazy though! But I will be so happy to sleep in on Saturday.

  • The first time was in January, though it wasn't by choice.  My mom was going to be watching her while I had jury duty the next day, and it got snowy and icy while I was at her house for our family dinner the night before.  I didn't want to have to drive on ice in separate directions to drop her off and go to the courthouse, so I decided to let my parents keep her overnight.  She did great.  Since then she has stayed there a few other times too.  My mom is my go-to babysitter for L, so she's as comfortable with my parents as she is with me.  And since my mom watches L and her cousin during the summer, she has tons of baby equipment and even diapers, etc.  I would be nervous to leave her with anyone else though, even MIL who keeps asking.  (She lives 2 hours away and L doesn't "know" her yet).

  • Yes, but only because of the BS I'm going through.  And I think he gets mad at me because he's a holy terror for a few days after I get him back.  Three nights is just too long.
