So I was going to save this for FFFC, but it was too funny/embarrassing not to share.
The other day DH asked DS what his name was, because he never says his name. He didn't skip a beat and answered right back, "Buddy." ![]()
Buddy is not his name or nickname. At best, it's kind of a casual pet name thing that we throw in when we're asking him to do something. Like, "Hand me your sippy cup, Buddy."
So, am I now the proud mom of a guy named "Buddy"?
Or will he figure out the difference between his name, nickname and other silly pet names?

Re: Nicknames/Pet Names
Hah, that was my mom's biggest fear when I was pregnant since I kept calling my bump Buddy.
I think he'll figure it out with your help. Particularly if other friends and family call him his given name.

haha! Yeah, I have to admit DH's aunt warned us about this a year ago, and we didn't listen to her!
Lol. If we ask DD what her name is she stares at us blanky, even though she refers to everything as "Evie's" and she understands what names are (she has named her stuffed lemur and kitten.) Even if we show her a picture and say who is that?
I'm sure you LO will figure it out, unless you become attached to having a Buddy.

LOL!! I'm sure he'll learn it. I guess you guys should start using it more often :-)
I'm surprised DS knows his name, considering I often call him by pet names too.
well when I ask John what his name is - he says something that sounds like John- when I ask him what his brother's name is he says Nickel- yes we call him that at times. So I am ok with that.
When I ask Nicholas what his name is he says Bubba. Oops I call them both that as a kinda pet name... So I guess I will have to work on that. When I ask him what his brother's name is he looks at me blankly. So I guess I have some work to do.

We call DS Buddy and baby all the time. It's awful, I know, we've always just said it. When I ask him where the baby is (meaning the one in my belly) he used to point to himself and say baby, now (after some direction) he points to himself and my belly and says baby. He knows his name is Carter but calls himself baby. He'll figure it out eventually I guess.
This! I ask Kellie what her name is and she gives me this blank stare lol

Until he was almost 3, if you'd ask my nephew what his name was, he'd say "BOY". I guess he heard too much "good boy", "such a nice boy".. Oops!
